could I get into berkeley?

<p>I wonder if I could get into berkeley...could you guys help me?</p>

<p>*Im from Panama City, Panama.
*Have lived in Puerto Rico, Brazil and Venezuela
*I speak portuguese, english, spanish</p>

<p>-Grades:Im a junior at the most competitive school in Panama
*Fr: 4.2
*So:4.3
*Jr:4.4 so far
(out of 5(max))</p>

<p>-EC's:
*President of Promuseum which is a group that helps rebuild museums in Panama.
*Vicepresident of Operation Smile which is a group that helps poor children have surgery.
*member of Junior Achievement which is a group that educate students to succeed in the global economy by making them creat ''corporation'' that will sell a product made by the students.
*volunteered in bay cleanup
*Social service: we traveled 3 weeks to the most rural area in Panama, Ca</p>

<p>word of advice: if you can really sinthetize all that you have done, and will most likely do in the near future, in 3 riveting essays, you will definitely have a strong shot at Cal. However, your academics are not as strong as they should given that you will apply as an international student. Try to improve on that.</p>

<p>Emphasis on individuality, culture, and idealism is very important, I believe. So, try to keep that in mind. Not much more I can add but to commend you for your extraordinary diligence towards your community. Recuerda que es como expresas tus virtudes, logros, y las incontables experiencias obtenidas lo que te dara tu pase a Cal Berkeley;) . Just don't take the "I'm almighty" and pompous approach. </p>

<p>BTW, I'm an incoming Freshman for the Fall Semester! I just went through the whole deal this year. Nerve-wracking indeed!</p>

<p>^ I totally agree with you kyledavid, i figured a white boy from the suburbs of CA--although, Argentinians are predominantly white.:) </p>

<p>Debo agregar que Cal, en ciertos casos, SI PIDE que se le envien las notas de fin de semestre. A mi y a otra amiga nos pidieron llenar un formulario extra a la aplicacion general de UC por internet. Ambos lo llenamos y ambos fuimos aceptados. ;)</p>

<p>...el hecho de que por lo general no vean tus calificaciones del semestre anterior no significa que no te debas esmerar en mejorarlas. </p>

<p>Segun tus calificaciones, tu promedio es de una B (4.4 x 0.8 = 3.52 = B). Es tal la razon por la cual sugeri mejorarlas un poco. Ellos entenderan que estas muy ocupado pero demostrar avance academico es crucial para estudiantes extranjeros. </p>

<p>Los ensayos, como ya he mencionado, son probablemente lo MAS importante de tu aplicacion. Eso no se lo niego a punkdude. En estos te das a conocer mas alla del ambito academico, expandes y explicas lo que has obtenido de tu servicio social, etc. Da a conocer tu personalidad lo mas posible. Expresate elocuentemente y ya veras que bien te ira. :)</p>

<p>Here's a link to a VERY HELPFUL guide on how to write your Personal Statement. It's from Cal itself. I read it and followed its advice. Good stuff man.</p>

and i'm from pasadena, which does make me a bit of a suburbanite, although unwillingly haha.</p>

<p>it must be quite annoying to read threads half in english and all of a sudden, and in the interesting parts where it gets juicy, switch to a totally foreign language. LOL</p>

<p>it really is advice. that's all. we just want to communicate our thoughts in spanish every once in a while in these forums.</p>
