Could I Get into Brown, Oberlin or Tufts??? (Harvard's just for laughs and giggles)

Female
African American
Private School
GPA: Unweighted 3.4/3.5 Weighted - 3.8
1980 on the SATs
670 SAT II Literature
690 SAT II US History
610 SAT II Math (ugh. horrible score, but it's only going to two schools)
4 on the US History AP
awesome common app essay

Harvard Legacy

ECs: editor of literary magazine (involved since freshman year)
Wrote for the school newspaper,
Gay-Straight Alliance (actively involved since freshman year),
3 years of guitar,
2 years of theater (2 lead roles)
40+ hours of community service
but no school government involvement.

As for sports, that’s my weak point. I’m horrible at them and I don’t do any. I did 6-month stint of fencing in my freshman year and became "officially armed and dangerous", but I don’t think that really counts for much.

I had a summer job last year, and this summer I got accepted to a 2-week creative writing workshop at UVA.

Reach Schools:

Brown University, USC, Princeton, Tufts, Harvard (I’m almost 100% sure I won’t get into Harvard, but my mom went there and so she’s essentially forcing me to apply).

Target Schools:

Oberlin College, Carnegie Mellon University, Boston University, University of Virginia, Chapman University

Safety Schools:

University of Arizona, Loyola College in Maryland

Although I personally think the triple-Ivy applications are a bit unnecessarily ambitious, I'm mainly concerned with getting into Oberlin, Tufts, and USC. (and Brown)

What do you guys think?

I think you got it right with naming schools reaches and such, Ivies are difficult but you never know.

oh, and I received the National Achievement Scholarship for my PSAT score from last year.

Chance back?

Your numbers are a little on the weak side, especially the GPA. URM will make you competitive, but you’ll have to work hard to sell your ECs

But you already have a good concept of which schools are “reach” and which are solid targets. Good luck!

legacy has an absurd amount of influence, so…
Tufts seems reasonable, SAT’s a little low
Brown: reach
Ivies are a reach
USC; low reach
BU: high match
UVA: low reach

Please chance back for BC and UVa

i say in at USC

uva: high match/low reach

do harvard/princeton accept january sat scores? if so, and if you can bring it up to 2100+ i think you have decent chances there. good luck!

please chance back?
