Could I get into Brown?

Brown is my first choice college but I know it is incredibly hard to get into. I’m a junior middle-class white female from a small town. I know this is low but I’m in the top 5% of my class or 20 out of 360 but that should go up this year. This year I have a 4.0 on the weighted scale or a 5.0 on the unweighted scale. I’m taking two AP classes this year, History and Psychology, and I should get a 5 on the AP test since I have close to an A+ in both classes. I’m planning on taking AP Gov., Literature, and Statistics next year. I’m also in all honors classes. I plan to major in political science.

SATS
750 in Reading, 720 in Math, 780 in Writing but I’m retaking them.

Extracurricular
3 years as JV tennis player, 2 years playing JV lacrosse
I volunteer to help disabled children play basketball in my community
Children Specialized Hospital volunteer for 2 years 3 times a month
Lieutenant Governor for Key Club
NHS
Juvenile Committee- I hear cases for juveniles in my area who broke the law and try to help them get back on the right track.

My essay should be pretty well written.
What are my chances? Could I make it?

Not good if you want the truth. Look at the ED results thread. See the talent of the applicants that got rejected.

Most of the applicants will have scored as well as you on the SAT, and will have the same GPA, and will have taken similarly challenging coursework. At face value your credentials are pretty generic.

I find it odd that you only included one short and virtually meaningless sentence in your post about your essay. First of all, you have to write more than one of these to apply to Brown, and second of all, they are what could potentially propel you to a higher and more compelling level. This is your chance to set yourself apart from the rest of the pool by saying something special. If the essays are just “pretty well written,” as you say, you’ll either get in by the skin of your teeth or not at all.

Best of luck.
