could I get into Cornell or UPenn?

hey ! It’s likely that I’ll apply ED to Cornell next year since I’m a junior now, but I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to give me some direction! I’ve been ‘’’’‘homeschooled’’’’’ since 10th grade & I’ve been attending community college since my previous high school had very few options for AP classes. (I’d also like to mention that I’ll graduate with both a liberal studies degree and a business administration degree.)

GPA: 3.98 (unweighted)

Course Load:
9th Grade (public school; no APs offered; I didn’t include regular classes):
Honors Geometry
Honors Algebra II (I doubled up)
Honors English

  • I took two java classes at the college

10th Grade (at college):
Spanish I
Precalc I
Bio
Precalc II
Spanish II
Political Science
Eng Comp I

11th Grade:
Financial Accounting
Macroecon
Western Civ
(plus two health classes I had to take for the state)
Calc I
Micro
Managerial Accounting
Chem
Eng Comp II

12th Grade:
my schedule isn’t set yet, but I know I’ll continue with business classes + physics, calc II, stat, and Spanish III and IV

Testing:
SAT - 1450 baseline score, but I’ll likely take it again and aim for 1550
760 math
690 eng
(I’ll also be taking the bio and mat II tests, but I don’t have a good gauge for my scores yet)

Activities:

  • I’m starting a scholarship program for women in comp sci & engineering at the community college this year; it’s likely we’ll raise at least $2,000 by the time I apply next year (11 & 12)
  • Youth and Gov; I’ve held smaller state-wide positions in past years & I’ve won smaller awards in the program; I’m also running for Editor in Chief of the press program within YAG this year (9, 10, 11, 12)
  • Student Government at the college; I intend to run for treasurer next year (11, 12)
  • Running; I’ll be running a half marathon in the spring (10, 11, 12)
  • I also participate in honors programs & I’ve been teaching myself Korean, but I don’t think these make a significant addition to my application
  • I'm a white girl if that matters much (?)

Thank you so much for your help !!!

I don’t know too much about how homeschooling affects admissions, but I’d say your SAT is definitely too low right now. I would also like to see more leadership in your ECs—I would assume that adcom is going to scrutinize your application to make sure your interpersonal skills are top notch since you’re not in a typical high school setting.

Are you planning to take any AP exams on your own? It would probably help so they have a baseline to compare your academics to other students.
