I go to a small, private all girls school and I am third in the class (.03 away from the person above me).

GPA: 4.26 (out of 4.3)
Rank: 3
ACT: 33
Ethnicity: White

I am a four year athlete, work with a charity, have participated in two internships, volunteer very often, and am involved in several different clubs including one centered around integrity. I am in NHS and SHS, and hold leadership positions.

I have taken as many AP classes as I could, and am currently dual enrolled at another university, on campus taking real college classes for credit. I have maintained as difficult a course rigor as I could based on the options my school has.

I have been having trouble getting in anywhere special. I have been deferred from four schools including UPenn, UNC, UVA, and Notre Dame. It seems like I cant be accepted anywhere.

I’m surprised you were deferred from those schools! I’d think you could at least get into UVA! I’d say you sound like a good shot for Georgetown (from one Gtown hopeful to another!)…I don’t know what those other schools were thinking when they didn’t accept you!

I just didnt want to bore anyone on here with intense details of my record and activities! I have done different things: mission trips to foreign countries and working with my mom so start our own charity. Oh and I should probably add that I was subsequently denied from both UVA and UNC; honestly, not surprised as an out of state applicant.

Your problem aren’t your grades or your scores. Your problem is that you (honest opinion) aren’t a unique application.

Colleges look continually for unique and outlier applications - yours probably didn’t seem like it was one. Think about it - how many white kids do you see that’ve started a charity, have a 4.0 and volunteer a lot? As for me, I’ve seen a ton.

I think where your application can turn this around is in the essays - do your absolute best on them! IMO, that’s what your application depends on.

I guess my question is, what could make me more unique? like I don’t understand what separates people realistically. yeah there are people who do crazy things but that’s more of a handful. I’m not trying to sound arrogant I just have a hard time understanding the uniqueness thing, there’s only so many options for what is available to do to make yourself stand out

A focus in your ECs. Like being a member of the science, math, writing, and culture club is nice, but it’s better to narrow it down to your interests.

I appreciate these responses alot, by the way so thank you! and I believe I have that. very involved in Spanish honor society and tutoring, very involved with integrity, very involved with math league, but like I said my school is small and very limiting opportunity wise, there isn’t much it offers. I did alot of tutoring and internships/shadowings as well, though.

another question: I was accepted to university of marylands honors college and bucknell. which do you think is a better choice. I got a pretty good chunk of money to umd and very little to bucknell, so I’m not sure how to choose

I think you will have a very good chance at securing admission to North Dakota Technical School of the Industrial Arts. I know its extremely competitive, so please don’t get discouraged if they defer you. I’ll pray for you! :D
