Could I get into NYU?

So I have some doubts because my grades have been wishy-washy due to massive family problems where I've been out of school for significant amounts of time- however; I have been in all AP and honors classes throughout High School and I've gotten mostly B's, a lot of A's and a couple C's (in Calculus & Chemistry). I've taken AP Lit, AP Statistics so far and am set up to take AP Language, AP Bio, AP Gov and AP European history next year. I have three years of Latin language. For SAT's I have a 2000 but I'm retaking them to boost my score For extra curricular activities I have-

Chamber
An annual music ensemble
I've played guitar for almost 6 years
I'm the president of my schools environmental club
I teach middle school students Latin
I'm part of a peace promoting organization
& I tutor all subjects to middle school students once a week, every week.

Adversities-
I was sexually abused growing up
My biological mother abandoned me
I'm adopted
My legal guardians are divorced (obviously).

With all things considered, what would my chances of getting into NYU be? I want to major in Psychology and minor in documentary film making.

If you write a really good essay and get strong teacher recommendations, you will have a shot.

Consider the cost of NYU. Can you afford more than $52,000/yr. with costs rising each year? Your stats won’t get you merit money and they are not know to be very generous with financial aid. Before getting attached to any college, be sure to consider finances.

It’d help if you would include your GPA, but oh well. If you can pay for NYU on your own (no financial aid), you have a better shot at getting in than you would if you had to ask for a large sum of money. But as nysmile said, your stats wouldn’t get you money.

mods should move this thread to what are my chances.

I’m not exactly attached, I just love the idea of going there and they have great programs for both of my prospective majors. I’ve also been considering Hampshire, Northeastern, BU, and many other schools. But cost-wise I technically could pay it, but it would probably be an unwise decision, NYU is certainly not ideal and I want to go to med school as well, so I need to save money where I can. Are there cheaper but equally culturally, artistically and academically rich schools you could recommend? btotheg- my unweighted GPA is 3.5, but I don’t know what it is weighted.

If you need substantial aid and do not get into their HEOP program, good luck getting in. Pretty funny how many of our top 10% students were outright rejected, but a couple full paying people from the 50% pile got in. Kinda ironic right? They were super special high achieving athletes? Nope.
