Could I get into Scottish Rite Dorm?

I would apply very early ( I will be a freshman in 2015 ) probably around September. I know I will be accepted to UT since I am in the top 5% of my class. I am aquainted with someone who resides in SRD. I have some questions, however.
What is a mason? I feel like I should know what that is.. I must have one?
Is it possible for my friend ( who will also be a freshman ) to be my roomie if I get a double?
Is there anything else I should know?

My daughter is going to be in SRD this fall. You don’t have to have a mason sponsor. (Masons is a fraternal order.) If you don’t have one, they’ll get one for you. To get in, submit an application and application fee. The contract will be emailed to you in early February. We fedexed the contract back the next day in order to ensure she got in. They fill up within about a week of the contracts being released. Yes, your friend can be your roommate, but she needs to get her contract in quickly as well. I know folks who were on the waiting list who got in, but best not to risk it.

When I was in high school, you had to get on the waiting list at SRD at least a couple of years early! You also had to have a relative who was a Mason. I lived in SRD all four years and loved it. It was beautiful. I would have lived there longer if I could have! Enjoy the swimming pool and the CCBs! :)
