Could I get into Stern?

GPA: 3.4 UW, 3.9 W (got dragged down by a brutal grade junior year, but pretty good grades senior year)
Rank: Top 20%
SAT I: 670 CR, 760 M, 730 W
SAT IIs: 800, 690
Total AP classes taken in high school: 13 (mostly 4's)
international student
no financial aid</p>

<p>Essay:
- how I'm writing a book
- about how I helped my dad do research for his dissertation when he was getting his PhD, and how since he's a business school prof, he's influenced me to go into business school as well</p>

<p>Awards:
- National Merit semifinalist (didn't make finalist, though)
- AP scholar with honor
- some regional competition, not a big deal</p>

<p>ECs:
- taught Sunday School to little kids for 2 years
- 2 instruments, selected to perform onstage in a big cultural event
- newspaper staff writer
- created and manages a website to expose the largest zoo in a foreign country for animal abuse, now working actively with PETA and IFAW to investigate it</p>

<p>also, is McDonough (of Georgetown) easier to get into than Stern? Which one would I be more likely to get accepted to?

<p>Definitely good stats. But not sure about the essay. It should be about you. Not about your dad getting his PhD.</p>

<p>NOOOOO wayyy... Stern is one of the toughest business schools in the world... the only business schools that are harder to break are Harvard and Penn-Wharton... and im not accepting any sort of discussion or argument on this...</p>

<p>You are a match for stern only blemish is GPA, but rigor is high so they may consider that as long as you did okay with that high rigor.</p>

<p>Yeah, Stern is extremely tough to get into, so it's a big reach...</p>

<p>i agree with mono. i hope your essay is more about you than it is your father. you have such a space constraint that you don't have a lot of time to tell the ad com about yourself. it's a good idea, just make sure to talk about yourself.</p>
