Do i have a good chance?
Thanks

I’d say you have a good shot of getting into the University, but doubt the honors college which makes up the top 10% of the applicant pool (or top 10% of each major). My D was accepted ED in 2011 with a decent merit award (top 25% of the applicant pool); she had a higher GPA and slightly lower SAT scores than you currently have. She did not get into the honors college. You might have a chance if you can get your SAT’s up at least to where you say you want to, but every year the school is getting more competitive so who knows what that bar will rise to for the honors program. Good luck!!!

Yeah, I agree on getting into the university. I’d even say you’re not far off from honors, but I’d be hesitant to tell ANYONE they’ll probably get honors. It gets tougher and touger every year, it changes according to what college you’re in, and it’s really hard to tell what got someone in (gpa, sat, ec, etc). No one really knows what the cuttoff for honors will be.

Just remember that even if you get in but don’t get honors, you can always apply after your first semester to get in. Plenty of people do that.

My stats were very similar to yours and I did not get into the honors program, but I did get merit aid. Though, I believe (I could be wrong) that it’s the top 10% students in each major, and I am a biology major, which is one of the largest on campus.

I believe that the honors students are chosen based on more than just raw scores. My daughter’s scores fell within the range of the middle 50% for honors as presented at the last open house we attended … she graduated 5th in her class of close to 400, she had a 32 ACT, and a 4.0+ GPA. She did not get into honors. Her ECs were very good but I don’t think she had the right leadership experience, and that may be why. You can go through the accepted students thread from December and see who was accepted into honors and with what scores, grades, etc. I agree as well you will probably be accepted, and you may even get merit aid, but honors is a different selection process. She’s also in a very small major, so if it is 10% per major, only one would qualify.
