Recently I have been looking into USNA, and it interests me a lot.

I don't know much about what it takes to be admitted. What kind of odds am I looking at?

It seems like you have what they’re looking for and some unique circumstances that could help you stand out. The only thing that you don’t have which the Academy likes to see and would be beneficial during plebe year is some AP Chemistry for your senior year. That is by no means a requirement, though, but it’s the only thing I could think of.

Thanks for the tip. Would AP Physics look just as good? I might take that class.

Plebe chemistry has often been referred to as the “Plebe eliminator” course. You’ll get more feedback I’m sure. Good luck

I’d say you’d get a very substantial review, and if your teacher recommendations are stellar, it’d be pretty tough for the Admissions Board to do anything but 3Q you …then the kicker becomes getting your nomination.

You look good. Now …here’s your deal: make sure you’re interested for the “right” reasons. Is this what you want to do with your life?

Not sure yet, but I’m thinking. I just wanted to see if there was even a point to thinking it through… which I guess there is, since you’re saying I could have a good chance. I’ll keep looking into it and reflecting over it etc, thanks.

Go for it.

One suggestion.
Take Chemistry instead of Environmental Science.
(and yes to a later post, chemistry is more important than physics at this point)
Make sure to stick to the Calc as well.

Best of luck.
I, for one, would love you see you “tell your story” about how your overcame the adversity to faced to get to the point you are at now- it is compelling, so make sure you tell it.

You have all the right credentials to be a great candidate here. However, please keep in mind the Naval Academy is for serious people who want to dedicate at least 5 years of service to the USA. We have too many people that come here and do not realize the weight of that commitment. If you want to attend this fine institution please consider what it all entails.

dirtyusna2013 …wow, your post speaks plenty about the heart and character of the young men and women attending your great institution. Stay the course. Don’t let the cynics disuade you from your mission and course. Your country needs you more than ever!

Your resume is much more impressive than mine was, like a lot more, and I got in just fine. I would say you will have no real problem getting in, the trick is staying here. This place is not high school, and you have to realize you are not attending some ivy league. We are all here to serve our cause, do some soul searching before you hit the submit button on your application. I have seen a ton of plebes this year who suffer from that ivy league delusion, make sure you are not one of them.
