Could I get into UChicago?

SAT I : 1970; W: 660, M: 670, CR: 630
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.96
Weighted GPA: 4.1
Rank: 28/341
Work Experience: Subway employee for the past two years

I know my SAT scores are really low, I'm just a terrible test taker and it's something I've always struggled with. I've worked really hard in school and always taken the hardest courses offered including many AP ones. My senior year load is hard with four APs, AP Calc, AP Eng, AP gov, AP physics, along with three other honor classes. My dream school is UChicago, if my essays and recommendations are strong, do I stand a chance of getting accepted?

Very doubtful, sorry. If your essays make people cry when they read them, you may have a slim chance.

You honestly never know. If people who’ve gotten sub 2000 SAT scores can get into Ivies…I think you have a chance at U Chicago. It’s true that test scores matter a bit, but essays and who you are as a person matter quite a bit more. U Chicago is awesome because it evaluates on a holistic basis, and if your application reflects who you are, then you definitely DON’T have a 0% chance of getting in.

While it’s not impossible, it appears to me that it is very unlikely you would be admitted to UChicago.

SAT scores are much too low for most people to expect a strong chance of getting in. Many people hold part time jobs in high school and your employment at Subway isn’t likely to wow the admissions counselors. The AP courses in which you are enrolled are good, but most admitted students here have taken them and many more.

If you really want to attend, write the best essays you can but be sure to have back-up places.
