Is there any possible way I could get CAPed or even offered the PACE program at UT? Also would A&M accept me? I am currently a junior in HS wanting to go pre med or into nursing:

Rank: 223 out of 650

Held a job at a fancy restaurant for a year (planning to switch for bttr job)

-first generation grad student
-Brazilian nationality (probably irrelevant in application process)

Also can someone give me a list of well known, fantastic colleges I could get into?

UT Austin is gonna be a huge reach. Your GPA is way too low for a 5.0 scale. It shows you can’t handle rigor. Are you OOS for UT- Austin? You also didn’t give any test scores. I’m not exactly sure anyone could give any schools that are good fits for you without that.

Depending on the test scores, OP might get Blinn TEAM at A&M.

Well I got a 1450 on SAT, but I also didn’t find the time to study for it so I’m going to try and do that this summer. If I happened to study enough and get a score of 1800-2000, could I possibly get in?

I mean, it would increase your chances. But if you are OOS, it would still be a reach. If I’m not mistaken, UT- Austin accepts every Texas applicant that is in the top 10% of their class. Then they accept other Texas applicants, then they accept OOS students. So you really need to stand out. Also, your GPA is pretty low, so that will hurt you. It will show that you haven’t taken weighted classes as had a rigorous schedule. Increasing from 400-600 points is EXTREMELY unlikely, so maybe you should take the ACT. It might be a better fit.

I do live in Texas and I have a pretty rigorous schedule, I’m taking 1 AP, 2 honors classes, 3 PreAp classes and orchestra. Next year I’ll be adding 3 AP as well. I also heard that being a first generation college student could increase your chances of getting into a school as well, could that be used toward my benefit in getting into UT?

UT is waaay out of your reach with your current stats; however, I’d encourage increasing your SAT (or taking the ACT). You will get CAPped if you raise your scores.
As for A&M, you do stand a chance at Blinn TEAM.

UT only accepts the top 7% now automatically.Best to shoot for transferring in after a couple of years at a less competitive school.

Does being a first generation college student help with anything?

It can, but it would depend on the qualifications of other 1st generation applicants at the same time. It is not all that uncommon of a hook.

@Torveaux
In a public school like UT Austin, probably.

@Olivesam
Oh, so you’re a first-gen college student? Let me give you a hint:

Forget about UT and go to A&M. A&M has a scholarship for first-gen students that pretty much pays for half of your on-campus housing. That, combined with the amount of grants you’ll get from A&M due to its much superior funding, will net you almost a free ride.

What great schools do you think I’ll be likely to get into based on my qualifications? (Can be in or out)

“Great” is subjective, though with a great SAT you could get into most Texas schools. Because you’re in the top 50% of your class:
- You’d be automatically admitted into UTSA if your SAT Critical Reading + Math = 1100 or greater, or if your ACT = 24 or greater. (Source: <a href=“Student Policies < The University of Texas at San Antonio”>http://www.utsa.edu/InfoGuide/ch2ug.html)
- You’d be automatically admitted into Texas Tech if your SAT CR + Math = 1230 or better, or if your ACT = 28 or better (Source: http://www.admissions.ttu.edu/index.php/admission-financial_aid/first-time-freshmen/)
