Could I get into William and Mary or UVA?

I visited both this past week and I fell in love with both of them! I just wanted to know if I had any chance of getting into either of these universities. I'm currently a junior and I am in state. My GPA is 4.45 weighted and probably 3.9-4.0 unweighted. I took my first SAT and I got a 1920 (I know, it's really bad but I studied the night before lol). I plan on retaking it in June and October.

My EC's: National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Interact, FCCLA, Environmental Club, French Club (many of these clubs involve community service, so I would say I do a significant amount of volunteering). I'm historian for Environmental Club this year, but I plan on running for leadership positions for other clubs next year.

So providing I bring my SAT score up to a 2000+, I keep my GPA up, I gain more leadership positions, I write a stellar essay, and I get good recommendations, would I have a good shot at either William and Mary or UVA? What else should I do to improve my chances? And what other colleges do you think I should apply to? Sorry this is really long lol...OH and should I take the ACT?

I also plan on entering a lot of art contests to make my application “stand out”

Aim for 2100+/31+…

Everyone plans to make their app stand out. Not to be rude but obviously… I think your stats and grades look good. Does your school have Naviance? Compare yourself there if so (perhaps through Blackboard?). Do re-take your SAT but know kids do get in without 2200s- at both schools. Be sure your ECs have history behind them. Pick one in particular and make it the focus. List them in order of importance; if art is hat inspires you most, put all the art together and tie the essay (one anyway) to it so they close your file with an image of you. Don’t list the ECs haphazardly. Sent an art supplement if you like- if I were in admissions with a kid who was big into art in the file before me I would be looking for an example. Get good recs, too. If you app,y as an art major then obviously send a portfolio. Oh. If you really think you like UVA you might look at their Leadership on the Lawn summer program. It’s a week in July. My D did it last year and loved it. Cemented UVA as her too choice. She loved the kids, the counselors, the activities, and living at UVA. I can’t say enough about it.
