could i get some subjective thoughts on NY colleges? (listed inside)

im looking into these schools… can anyone gimme some feedback? anything from neighborhood, how close it is to the city, campus feel, majors

and if there are another other schools in NY that a pretty decent please post also~

im from cali and i used to live in ny so im looking to move back… my GPA is a 3.8 and SAT is 1300+… i have many extracurriculars such as ASB (4 years), currently ASB executive vp, key club vp, many art awards, dance and others (just to be brief)

<p>Well I dont know too much about those schools but having lived in NY, in and out of the city my whole life, I can tell you the following</p>

<p>Fordham, NYU, St. Johns and Wagner are all in the city. Granted not all in manhattan but technically the city (New Yorkers generally use the term "the city" with reference to Manhattan fyi)</p>

<p>Colgate and Ithaca are both in different areas.</p>

<p>I'd say that of the NYC Schools ( i havent been to Colgate or Ithaca), NYU Wagner and St Johns (depends which campus) are probably in better areas than Fordham. NYU's neighborhood has a distinct almost neo-NY hippie feel that isn't really my taste but most people i know really like. I know less about the other two, but academically all four are well regarded locally at least; obviously NYU and St Johns (Fordham too) have a lot of national recognition, with NYU coming out on top academically, obviously.</p>

<p>I've lived in New York since I was 8 and I going to school in New York now (Columbia), so here's my take:</p>

<p>St. Johns has a pretty decent pharmacy program.</p>

<p>NYU and Colgate are the best of the bunch in terms of academics.</p>

<p>NYU is in the real NYC, it's a great area to be if you are a city person.</p>

<p>Colgate is in a very small town. Really nice campus, not a whole lot to do though. There is definitely a typical Colgate student, but there are some people (like the infamous Guy with the Stick) that don't seem to fit anywhere, yet have the best time. Great academically, not very politically active.</p>

NYU is definately a type of place i am interested in but it cost SO much and i doubt i can get in... i want to major in communications also~ and St. John's.. there stats aren't TOO impressive from what ive seen on the college board... can someone tell me more of their rankings and stuff?</p>

One of the reasons my friends are applying is because of the Olsen Twins. thats crazy....
I wouldnt mind going there. I might apply there for mathematics.</p>

<p>Fordham has two campuses in NYC - one in the heart of Manhattan on the Upper West Side, one block from Central Park and the other in the heart of the Bronx, across the Bronx Zoo and the REAL Little Italy. Both are different, but provide more of a traditional campus life experience than other NYC schools. </p>

<p>St. John's is mostly a commuter school with no national reputation whereas the majority of NYU and Fordham's students hail from out-of-state. Wagner is more residential but still more regional in feel on a secluded campus on Staten Island. There are differences here...check each school's website, check out the campus pictures, research the school philosophies, focus on the academic opportunities...</p>

<p>In terms of selectivity...Colgate and NYU are the most selective of the bunch, followed by Fordham, then Ithaca. After those four, there is a big gap and then Wagner, followed lastly by St. John's.</p>
