Hello, I'm a rising sophomore who took the SAT in March with no studying and got 1950. I would really like to get at least 2350+ when I take the SAT in my junior year. Here are my scores for each section:
Math-730
CR-580
Writing-640

As you can see, my CR score is pretty low. I had a lot of trouble with reading long passages; they bore me and I lose focus. I would really like to get my CR and Writing scores to at least 750 before summer ends.
How much should I study?

To answer your question in the thread title, yes it’s possible. I made a 186 on the PSAT sophomore year and am pretty sure I made a 2350+ on the June SAT (haven’t gotten scores yet, hope I didn’t jinx it).

Study lots. Sophomore year I got 205 on the PSAT or something like that, 2360 only try at SAT.

I did the preparation booklet of 2007-2008 last summer. I got the following: 620CR, 680M, 680W. I then took the January SAT 2010, just 6 months later, with absolutely no preparation between the 2, and got a 2070 (630CR, 720M, 720W) and then in May (still no prep) and got slightly lower on CR and M (620 and 710 respectively) but much higher on writing (790, though with a 9 essay as opposed to 10 in Jan.)
In short, yes it is possible. I studied (pretty hard) between May and June, and took it in June, and I’m expecting a 2250-2300. Hopefully the latter.
You need to work though. Don’t expect your score to raise itself by more than 100 points without studying. I practiced a lot for CR and not that much for math because it was just a matter of avoiding careless errors - and I didn’t study for writing because I just didn’t care about it.
Good luck!

I went from a 750 CR, 500 M, 640 W on the first practice test I took (~ a 1890) to a 770 CR, 680 M, 800 W on the last practice test I took before the June exam (~ a 2250, an increase of 350 points). You should be able to do it, if you try.

It’s definitely possible, especially since you’re only a rising sophomore. Just study hard throughout sophomore and junior year and you’ll be fine (:

It’s definitely possible, since i started with an 1830 on my first blue book SAT practice test and with lots of review, later got a 2250. I’m still waiting on June 2010 sat results, but I believe i got between a 2250 and 2300. I’m probably going to retake in october again also, and this time, the 2350 i’m aiming for is within reach! Don’t lose hope and keep working!

Its not that hard you know. In my initial tests I was getting about 1930-1970. I worked for about a month and then on the actual SAT I got 2290. W-800, M-770, CR-720.

Tip-Use Princeton Reviews 11 Practice Tests.
Also to improve your critical reading, pick up some old boring book(that you absolutely dislike reading) and read it. (You get the same horrible passages on the SAT as well). Time yourself. How much time to do you take to read a page…maybe two. Keep trying to improve your times. Initially (I read Sherlock Holmes)…pages were quite huge(small font) …I took 5 mins a page. At the end of a week, I was taking close to 2 mins. So it def helps…my CR jumped from ~580 to 720 :)

Of course you can! I was able to, so I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t. Don’t ever set limits on how well you can do.

Wow, silenceizsick, I saw you got a perfect 2400!!! CONGRATS!!! :D
