Nothing outstanding. Grades are solid, scores are a bit on the low side (I have the same ACT). How many APs does your school offer? 5 isn’t a lot unless your school only offers a handful. EC’s are underwhelming.

High Reach. I don’t have a 4.0 UW (I have a 3.86) but I’m ranked top 10 out of 450 students with 12 APs by the time I graduate. My standardized test scores are higher than yours, I’m president of 3 major clubs at my school, I’ve done over 100 hours of community service, completed 2 summer internships, 70 hours each, at medical practices/hospitals, am part of 3 honor societies, and have stellar teacher recs and a solid essay. And I’m still not sure if I’m good enough for Duke.

This is ridiculous. You have a great chance man. I am at Duke now and help with the admissions department. I can tell you that they value extracurriculars and strong essays over test scores. There is not much of a difference between a 700 and a 750. They are going to take the more well rounded student. Everyone here is smart. I think you have a good shot and impressive resume

Sorry…I really didn’t mean to post that. I was just a little ticked off that day by something at school so I ranted here. My fault, and I apologize.

But honestly, you still have a very slim chance. Everything is solid, but nothing stands out, which will be detrimental at top schools like Duke. If you’re in-state, definitely apply to UNC-CH, because I think you can definitely get in there. Duke would be a stretch if you don’t significantly up your scores. You can’t do much about the ECs though as those are progressive from the beginning of high school…

Hate to break it to you Golfer but everyone has a slim chance getting into Duke, including you. So stop being condescending. I didn’t think I would get in but I did. Life goes on. You’re all smart and will do great where ever you are.

@DukeRM: What are you talking about? I never said I had a good chance at getting in. I was upset about something at school that day so I mindlessly took out my anger here, which is 100% my fault and I apologized for it. I didn’t mean to be condescending, but my emotions got the best of me.

If you’re referring to my second post, you have to agree with me. These days, you NEED something amazing to get in. You can’t be a solid applicant; you have to be an outstanding applicant. I feel like the OP is solid: everything is on par, but it’s not good enough to generate the WOW factor from the adcom. If his/her essays and recs are stellar, then yes, he/she will have a great chance at getting in, but based off the objectives of his/her resume, I’d say mid-reach, unless his/her essay is as great as he/she says, then I’d say high match.
