I applied to University of Southern California biomed/elec engineering recently, but after viewing ppls stats on here who applied I fear that my chances are slim to none. If anybody could verify my doubts or disprove them, I would greatly apprieciate it. Thanks guys, and do be harsh.

USC actually sent me a letter inviting me to apply, and I guess that if a school does that, chances are that they think you'd be a good fit for it. Your SAT score is the same as mine (although different breakdown). I think your class rank and other stats are about the same as mine as well. I think that you have a decent shot.

Thanks for the info, but as far as schools inviting you to apply, I had harvard send a letter inviting me to apply, yet I have no chance there, so I don't think the letters have anything to do with someone being a good match. I think they just send those letters to whomever gets a high psat score. I could be wrong though. Any other opinions?

i think USC uses the unweighted GPA because its private.. and it doesnt really matter if they send you a letter inviting you to apply because they probably send that to everyone in order to advertise their school

Only a slight reach? Thats good to hear...So how are the uc gpas calculated... like a 4 for every A and a 3 for every B? If so, do they take into consideration the freshman year? If not, my uc unweighted gpa would be around 3.75. Does this help or hurt my chances? And I thought USC had a weighted gpa since their average gpa is 3.99, and I am sure that is not uw. Thanks.

1 additional pt per semester of course that is honors level, AP, IB, college level, etc. UC GPA is determined by the semesters of courses taken from sophomore and junior year that meet the A-G requirement. 8 maximum courses can be weighted. so for example if you have 8 ap classes, that would count as an additional pt for 16 semesters. also, the UC GPA is capped at 4.5

Are you suppose to count like an 89 AP as a 4 and a 91 AP as a 5? I did this and weighted a max of 16 semesters, and came up with a 4.39 gpa! How does this make my chances at USC?
