im currently a high school junior and am in the process of drawing up a finalized list of colleges to which i could apply. i am aware of rice university's prestige and need opinions as to whether or not i could be accepted if i applied.

GPA: after first semester junior year...3.9
SATI: 2290 (800CR, 750M, 740W)
SATII: 780 Math II, 760 Bio, 720 Literature
AP Classes: am enrolled in AP Chemistry and AP United States History
Senior Year course load: AP Physics, AP Economics, AP Calculus AB, AP Law and Government, AP English Literature, Advanced Writing and Composition (am not sure whether i should drop spanish or not)
Extracurriculars: I am a nationally ranked diver (I have been diving for 12 years), sing in the church choir, and am on the math team. I am not sure whether or not i will dive in college yet.

If you are a current student at Rice, I would value your opinions and any advice that you could give me. Thanks so much!

Your stats look terrific. APs, gpa, SATs, ECs, (a bit weak), overall looks fine.

Do you have leadership? Are you recruitable? (as a nationally ranked diver is GREAT, but it will open more doors if you’re recruitable) Do you need FA? Are you from an URstate? Are you an URM? These matter too.

Explain why Rice is special to you. Visit if you can. And don’t drop Spanish. Can’t tell you whether you’d get in; I’m not on their admissions committee.

But again, no one knows if you’ll get in or not. It’s hard to say. I was shocked that I got in early with my SAT scores (Reading 630 Math 790 Writing 750 (12)) while others with 2300 + legacy got rejected…

I am definitely recruitable as an athlete, but for personal reasons I am not yet sure whether or not I would continue diving in college. I would need financial aid if I got in.

FA won’t influence your admittance decison. Of course you could get in - but there are no guarantees. You have the stats, and a very unique EC, diving. Apply and take your chances. :)

GotRice, one reason that MAYBE you got in vs someone with 2300 was b/c Mr./Ms. 2300 might not choose to go to Rice. I suspect they were thinking a lot about their yield with that decision.

Whats your geographic location? If you are a houston resident, it will be hard to predict, however if you aren’t, your most likely in. Even if you are a houston resident, you still stand a great chance, but it will just be more random.

and would you recommend that i drop spanish completely for next year? or should i at least take regular in order to have that class for all four years
