Could I put this on an application?

I say yes, especially since these are RTS games and require some actual brain power rather than BAM BAM DIE DIE DIE ARRGGHHH…

I say put it on there. Most kids applying to these schools have the same cookie-cutter ECs- Student govt, hospital volunteering, leaders of various clubs, varsity sports- and frankly most of them are not all that impressive after 200 identical applicants. And please please do not try to tie your essay into teaching younger kids or perseverance, that is so cliche that I’m becoming bored just thinking about it.

Plus, as you said, it’s a crap shoot. Might as well go all out since there really is no guarantee. I say stand out and be an interesting applicant.

You’re not really that interested in going to the college… So why not?

I say go for it.

Plus. At the very least. You will stand out. And that’s hard enough to do.

I mean if you get rejected… you’re just like 94% of all other applicants to Harvard. Not really that big of a deal.

well… if you don’t have any other ECs to fill in the spaces, I’d say go for it!

I think it won’t hurt you…

^^^That’s why I love Chicago’s essays. I know I’m going to throw up writing that cliche garbage about perseverance, why I love <college>, etc.</college>

If you do it, manage to do it in a thoughtful way that makes it seem not as bad as it really is. If you put it down, don’t JUST put it down. You gotta bolster it in some way…

lol you should…i mean on my common app i put that I was a “self-proclaimed vintage hairstylist” or something like that :stuck_out_tongue: and i got into a top 15 school…

make it fun and creative when you write it.

You can incorporate it into your essays in a meaningful way, somehow…

I would suggest going further with it, possibly looking into a computer science/design major.

You could probably write your essay on game strategy… haha

Hahaha, let me know how that goes for you. I put “Homecoming King” as one of my ECs under the ‘Awards’ category, but that didn’t work out too well for me. :stuck_out_tongue: Although in my defense, it was a reach school for me anyways, so I figured I needed to do something to try catch their attention. :)

As if being useless, self-important “royalty” was a good thing… put “Homecoming Proletariat-elected President,” then we’ll talk.

Haha yeah I’ll admit it probably wasn’t the best idea. The whole idea behind it was to show that I was affable and outgoing. It was mixed in with leadership, sports, and club awards, and I thought the more characteristics I showed, the better.

definitely. this is why:

  1. You spent an awful lot of time on it.
  2. It shows that you are not a study-15hours-a-day nerd.(no offence to anyone like that here, i am just saying)
  3. The app is supposed to give a picture of who you are. If a college does not like you for who you are, i.e. someone who likes video games and competitive in it, maybe that college is just not the rigt one for you.
    Just my humble opinion.
