Could I still get into an Ivy League or at least NYU?

I didn't do so good on my first marking period of my freshman year in high school. My average is an 89 and I'm really mad because my friends gets 90s. My grades for the remainder of the year is going to be cumulative so I would have to start with these terrible grades for the 2nd marking period. If I work really hard for the remainder of my time left in high school and get all A's, is it still possible for me to get into an Ivy League or NYU? I feel like crap right now because my parents really want me to get in one, but I think I've already screwed up... I go to a specialized HS by the way, if that makes a difference.

NYU: Aim for 32+/2150+ (even if it meant LSP for you)

If you get all As in the future then aim for Stanford because Stanford doesn’t take in account freshman year.

damn… I feel even worse now

Are you a freshman? Then don’t worry about it. With a good motivation, you can definitely achieve those scores and show a good increasing trend in the rest of your marking quarters. Also many colleges don’t even consider freshman year GPAs.

You’ll never get into anywhere if you’re already freaking out less than halfway through freshman year.

Do your best and pursue your interests.

My advice: DON’T go for IVY League schools just because your parents want you to do so.
Follow your passion/interest, and try your best.

What specialized High School?

Which specialized?
High schoolers in NYC tend to have the misconception that you need a 90 or higher for an Ivy League admission. Hate to inform you of this, but you need massive amounts of extra cirriculars for admissions. A non for profit college tutoring program, 200 community service hours, being the president of a club are all prime examples. You need to absolutely take as many AP classes as you can do and get 5s on all of them. A near perfect SAT score helps. National competitions also boost your chances. Harvard wants you to make opportunities out of EVERYTHING in high school. They want the kid who’s survivng on milligrams of coffee. They want the kid who has barely any free time. They want the one striving for the best (unless you’re of course, you’re an athlete).

These schools are Ivy League schools for a reason. People are going to tell you to relax and chill but in all honesty, you’re going to be stressed out at points and you’re going to need to do excellent. Don’t follow into the “try your best cliche”, because the sad reality not any of those members are actually Ivy students (unless they’re one of the naturally gifted 2400 scorers who didn’t study for their little test".

Aside from the steaming bowl of stress you’re going to have to follow through, I’m sure you can get into an Ivy. Try not to score any Bs, and disregard your social life (but don’t forget to have some fun, on occasion). I’m a sophomore myself and this forum has hit me in the face sideways. I actually go to BHSEC, if that helps.

ignore the incorrect grammar, i have some stupid physics midterm to study for LOL
