Could I use an essay I wrote for UChicago for Stanford?

The prompts are completely different, but my UChicago essay kind of fits the Stanford prompt. I’m just concerned if Stanford would care about this… The UChicago prompt is “How do you feel about Wednesday” and the Stanford prompt is “Stanford students possess an intellectual vitality. Reflect on an idea or experience that has been important to your intellectual development”. Since the UChicago prompt is so specific I’m concerned Stanford will find out and look badly upon my application(i wud cri). So should I do this?

The UChicago prompts are likely known in Stanford admissions IF it is one of this year’s UC prompts. If you went back several years in the UC prompts, it probably won’t be recognized.

No. I’m going a step further than @intparent. NEVER recycle a UChicago prompt. UChicago prompts are sort of like the Neiman-Marcus Christmas Catalog; AO’s wait all year to see what’s inside. You should assume that Stanford’s AO’s have this year’s prompts memorized and, if they’ve been there a few years, likely know past years’ as well. Stanford will smell a recycled essay from a mile away. For a school that rejects 95% of its applicants, is that what you really want to do?

If you are to recycle, why not change the day for something else and make sure it fits the Stanford prompt.

@skieurope what if I adjust it so it does not resemble the UChicago prompt as much. It was never my intention to straight up recycle the UChicago essay anyway.

@skieurope is right. It is risky to use any of them. I am not an admissions person, and I read them every year. My kids (past admissions time) and I talk about the interesting ones.

That doesn’t mean an idea or phrase can’t be real-used. But I’d stay pretty far from recycling. If you haven’t got more ideas than one, you might not have intellectual vitality anyway!

I concur with @intparent 's post above.

naw I’m just lazy

Given how important essays are for both schools it doesn’t seem like that could be a good idea

Too lazy? Maybe you save yourself the effort and don’t apply to Stanford. Or is this a joke?

Stanford screens for this sort of disinterest and low energy. And of all the ideas in the world, you want to use a prompt from the college whose are the most unique? Doesn’t smell right.
