Writing is one of my strengths and I have pretty good recs, i'm Asian, if that matters, so i would appreciate any chances

whats your major?

Definitely retake SAT IIs. From previous chance/decision threads, its fairly rare to see an applicant, especially an accepted applicant, with sub-750 scores on science/math sat II tests. That's espeicially true for Math lvl 2. For that one, if I'm not mistaken, you can miss a couple and still score an 800, so you should really shoot for that 800 for Caltech. It seems as if even a 780 Math lvl 2 doesnt look too great when applying to CAltech.

As far as everything else, it seems solid, in fact, a couple seem pretty notable. I'm just not sure if Caltech would be too interested in, say, dancing. I'm thinking they do ccare a little bit. My one friend was internationally recognized for her indian dancing/singing and she was accepted early, so maybe that will give you a good shot.

From what you've written, it seems you are quite strong (and interested?) in social sciences/humanities. If it is true, Caltech will not be the school you'd want to attend. Nevertheless, speaking of topic of this thread, your lack of math/science activities, along with less-than-average math and science scores on SAT's, and no Calc BC will certainly jeopardize your chances. Granted, not a single thing listed above is required for the admission by itself, but when you put everything together...you get the point. Again, it does not mean your stats are weak - it's just that at Caltech you probably won't be happy. There are other great schools, which are not as science and math oriented as Caltech.

I was thinking the same thing. Not only would I think you'd find yourself happier at other schools, i also think, due to Caltech's math/science nature, you'd have a greater chance of being admitted at other schools who look for a more well-rounded person.

I hate to put down my own school, but honestly, if your EC's are what you enjoy doing, I don't think Caltech is a good fit for you, scores aside. You don't really have a lot of math and science "stuff". I think you'd be much happier elsewhere, like Stanford or Northwestern or something.

I mean, we do have volunteer organizations and bands and stuff, but you're not going to have a lot of time or extra energy to put into it here.

I agree that Caltech does not seem like a good match from what you've said, but that may be just a function of what you've chosen to highlight. Why do you want to go to Caltech?

thanks for your replies, caltech is probably my last choice (not safety, just last on my list) anyway, but my parents thought it would be a good idea to apply. i had applied to stanford SCEA, but i was rejected. anyhoo, there's other schools out there, so...
