I am planning to apply to pton in the fall, and I wondered if my musical interests/skill could be a hook. I play the violin, piano, and voice. I am planning to submit an arts supplement for all three (can you even do that? I am not sure). Could this be a hook, even considering my resume (see below)

Music and other special skills don't cancel out so-so academic achievement unless they're truly extraordinary--like playing at Carnegie Hall at age six-extraordinary. Don't bother attaching a music supplement unless you're really, really good and if you genuinely plan on pursuing music on some level at Princeton.

Instead, talk about what awards you've won, what festivals you've played at, that kind of thing.

It's not a hook; UNLESS you're TOP-NOTCH, and usually I hear sending in supplementary material like art/music doesn't do anything unless it's really crazy.

I doubt it'll help you unless you're really good.

Well, I am serious about my music, but not serious enough to go for a music major, or to a conservatory. (I want to go to Princeton for International Relations). I have heard that Princeton received a grant for their music program and they need students to help fill the positions opened up by the grant. While I could be wrong about that, I was thinking about submitting arts supplements, which, I feel in this context, would be somewhat of a hook. Not in the strictest sense, of course, but in a sense nonetheless. And my music would be concert quality, if that helps any. I just want to show myself as diverse and accomplished as I can. Music has been a humongous part of my life and I want to display that.

Your SATs are woefully low for HYP. You basically have no shot if you don't significantly increase it (like 250 points out of 1600). That score won't even be good for Patriot League schools like Bucknell, Colgate, etc. Don't be so attached to Ivy League schools. Or if you are, go to a state school, get a 4.0, and transfer to Cornell (it was my ugrad, they LOVE transfers!).

Good quality essays require a lot of time and energy. You should try to finish them over the summer otherwise you'll be bogged down between the applications, your tough schedule, and retaking the SAT/ACT. Do apply to the Ivies but have good safeties too.

Ivy, I replied to you on the other thread in College Admsissions. That's sary though- we're both applying to P'ton for IR, and both play the piano. lol
