So I am taking on a full load of IB classes next year and will be part of the full diploma IB program. So far my schedule is:

Biology SL
Math SL
US History
Film HL 1
Philosophy HL 1
English HL 1
Spanish 3 Honors

My question is should I take US History AP or just a regular US History class? I am not sure if I should just focus on my other classes (I intend to be an english or film major in college anyways) or if not having this AP would really affect my application. *I am looking for admission to schools like: UCLA, NYU, Columbia, and Brown. Thanks a lot (:

i wouldn't say it would affect your app. significantly, but having the strongest course load available is always a plus, so if you think you can handle it, go ahead and take it.

So your school doesn't offer IB History? That is weird. And how can you be "part" of the "full" IB Diploma program? Wouldn't that mean you are not Diploma?

I would personally say take AP History, because your areas of interest do relate in some ways to that class, whereas Bio not so much. But if you are seriously not interested in the class, take the normal history class. Don't take classes just because they'd look good on the application. In other words, quality, not quantity.

Most schools require that you take a certain measure of general edu classes, although I'm unsure if the schools you listed do, or even if they accept AP credit. If they do on both counts, then I would advise taking it in order to save money and time later down the road.

When I was in IB, I took AP US History. However, that was a part of my HL History curriculum, and it seems that philosophy is your Group 3 subject. APUSH can require a lot of studying time, so I don't think you should take it unless you like history or unless you really don't want to take history in college.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, the way that my schedule works out is that to fit it all in I could either take HL History or HL Film and I chose the film route. So, I am just going to take US history for one year, and Theory of Knowledge will take history's place senior year.
