Hello I am currently a junior wishing to get into a good computer science or engineering school and want to work my ass off as i did not do well freshman and sophomore year. Hear is my current schedule:
AP US HISTORY
PRE CALC HNRS
LA3 HNRS
SPANISH 3 HNRS
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING(no honors availble
Physics Honors
I was wondering if my schedule has enough rigor. Will taking 1 regular class(computer programming) look really bad on my app even if i take ap computer science next year and get a A in this easy joke of a class. Also i was wondering whether i should drop a class and take ap stat as i am good with graphs and such. I wanted to drop spanish because i feel it is useless. But 3 years of foreign language are needed by some of the colleges I wish to go to. Can i pick up spanish for the final year, senior year? Is this normal or am I an idiot. Thank you very much! Also will the spanish class I took senior year count becuase I heard colleges dont look at senior year this would break my hurt because i plan to take my most important courses senior year.(ap calc , ap chem or phyics, ap computers and ap english language and i want colleges to see me succede in these classes)
If there is no honors programming, and you need it before the AP, then colleges will understand. No one can fault you for not taking what isn’t available to you.
Keep Spanish. Only take stats if you have room.
Colleges do look at your planned senior courses to make sure you’re still challenging yourself.
It'll have been a full year, and don't tell yourself you'll study to keep the language fresh in your mind over that year, because c'mon. :P You'll forget a lot.
Scheduling conflicts next year. What happens if you somehow can't take it and are stuck with two years only?
those are very valid points and thank you very much kind sir for your replys the reason however the first point shoulnt matter too much is because the spanish classes prior to spanish 3 honors were ridiculously easy and there was not much to forget. Second Point is a quite valid concern and i will definitely take it into consideration. My main worry was however will colleges hold the fact against me that i took spanish after a break junior year even if I manage to get an A senior year or will that still count as 3 good years of foreign language? Thank you very much!
Most colleges look at sophomore and junior years. Some colleges require the 3 yrs of foreign language to be completed before submission of senior grades.
If you elect to avoid Spanish until senior year, and someone with similar stats, has the 3rd year of Spanish fulfilled by Junior year, then guess who is considered?
I gather that your counselor mentioned the same issue.
Your senior classes are considered, but if the colleges specifically ask for the foreign language requirements to be completed by the time of application, then you will be stuck.
Colleges do indeed look at your senior year. They will see your senior schedule and they will receive a mid-year report of your performance. And while you will not have completed your senior year by the time you are accepted, your acceptance is contingent upon no precipitous drop in grades.
Oh, and keep Spanish junior year; it’s hard to go back after taking a break for a year.
