Hello everybody, could somebody please take a look over my activities essay for the common app? I know this one is optional and supposed to be 250 words, but right now it's 300 so I was hoping somebody might be able to give suggestions to shorten it in addition to possible revisions. I'd rather not post it publicly, so please reply if I can PM it to you! Thanks!

PM it to me, i’ll see what i can do.:)

David: The Activities Essay is not optional – it’s gone! The Common App did away with that essay this year. Applicants will now only have the single essay (not counting any supplementary ones requested by individual schools) to complete as part of the Common Application: https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2013/EssayAnnouncementFinal.pdf

Thank you for your reply, Gibby. I couldn’t find anywhere on your link that the activities essay was gone. Are you positive that it is gone because that would absolutely make my day. I was reading this article and it mentioned that it will be optional by choice of college:

First off, the extracurricular essay from past years had a 150 word limit (not 250). Secondly, go to the Common Applications Facebook page “commonapp/posts/10151219380490667”

There are over 500 members of the Common Application, some of whom already have multiple supplemental essays. As you cannot be sure which colleges are going to ask for an EC essay (or a version of it) and if the word limit will be 150 words, 250 words or 500 words, it just makes sense to wait until August 1st before writing an essay you many not need.
