Do I have an upward trend?
I have great extracurricular including 300 hours of volunteering, robotics club, sports, VP of debate club, ect. I intend go to hard on the essays required for admissions and get amazing letters of recommendation. Also, I will have around a 29/30 on the ACT. What are my chances?

I say it is a match out-of-state. My friend (OOS, like me) had a 30 ACT, strong courseload like yours, and good extracurriculars (not as great as yours) and got into engineering (which is a Limited Enrollment Program, meaning it’s more competitive). I got into UMD for CS this year.

@youTalkintoMe Yes, I am OOS. I’m an incoming freshman, and I don’t have as much experience as many people - I have done some Java, and some Python, but my school didn’t offer much in terms of AP credit, so I’ll be starting out with CMSC131 (the first required class, which you could place out of if you have AP Computer Science credit, or if you take a placement exam if you do choose to attend). I’ll also be taking Calc 1, though I have taken calc before, so I’m not too worried.

I have talked to a couple sophomores already, and they really love UMD and find the UMD CS program to be slightly challenging but also very fulfilling. Some already have internships, and those who don’t are still learning lots and lots of information as they become more qualified. I’m personally super excited to start.
