Could Someone explain the Financial aid process in english for me?

Yes I have looked into RPI. But like someone stated, its full of guys. Needles to say that is NOT good. Plus it has a $70 app fee. I know I have a good chance at getting application waivers but I don’t feel putting that much stress on my counselor is right. I know it sounds ■■■■■■■■ because it could save me like $300+. Or is it easy for him to do? If its easy then I’ll talk to him bout it.

And I have also looked into ROTC but I have no desire to be a govt slave (an exageration… don’t take it literal) for 6 years.

And off of SMART’s site: “Undergraduate applicants must be currently enrolled in a regionally accredited U.S. college or university and have a high school diploma/GED. Current high school students are not eligible to apply.”

“However your stats are decent for instate colleges”
You kiddin me? I CRUSH in-state scores but problem is VA doesn’t offer what I freaking want. Right now I’m facing 2 options

 1. Major in something I don’t want to in state
 2. major OOS and be screwed with loans for years

You can also do the Academic Common Market. Then, you could go to Georgia Tech for in-state rates.

South Carolina State is on the ABET list, and your stats are WAY above the average SAT scores for that school (823 math and verbal combined, 2.9 GPA etc). They seem to have a lot of full and partial scholarships, and you definately exceed the minimum requirements for those.

[South Carolina State University](http://www.scsu.edu/admissions/financialaid/scholarships.aspx)

I know absolutely nothing about this school, but I was curious and followed the ABET link and then visited the scholarship area of South Carolina State.

In my opinion you should not even bother to apply to Penn State, they are notorious for giving very poor financial aid. I’m guessing that most of the State schools are the same, but I definately remember Penn State as being one of the worse.

If you have to “settle” for an instate school that didn’t have your major, is there a reason why you didn’t choose UVA??? They meet 100% of need. I realize that they are very competetive, but being instate you have an advantage.

RPI is in my backyard (practically) and there are lots of pretty girls there! My daughter will be visiting a friend of hers who is attending there on Sunday. There is an active Greek life it that interests you. I know RPI’s % of females is also increasing due to some recruiting. Daughter would go but it is too close to home.

^^^

What is the male/female ratio these days?

Found it…about 4000 males
about 1500 females

Boy, the women get the best pickings! What an advantage!

RPI is around 75/25 boys/girls, which is better than it was when I went there.

Plus there is an all-girls college right down the hill, conveniently located near the bars. So there are plenty of girls around.

From RPI’s web site:

“If your total family income is $60,000 or less, and the application fee presents a hardship for you and your family, you may qualify for a fee waiver. To request a fee waiver, ask your high school guidance counselor, principal, or other school official to fill out the SAT Request for Waiver of College Application Fee form or to submit an official letter on your behalf. You may assume the waiver has been granted unless you hear otherwise from us.”

Sounds pretty easy - one simple application to fill out. Don’t know about other schools but I bet it is similar. You can probably use the same form for every school, so it would only have to be filled in once.

As for stressing out your GC - that’s his job.
