Could someone familiar with Rice please comment on economics/psychology at Rice?

“I thought MathEcon was a BS…”

:D

That’s why I thought MathEcon was a BS… It has more course requirements than the BA in Economics, and also requires a semester (or two, depending on your choice) of senior independent research. Maybe it doesn’t require a thesis though. Eh.

Honestly, a BS and BA isn’t that big of a difference. Your job salary won’t change drastically like (say 80K to 70K, no it won’t happen, especially because you went to a great school). Sure there are some difference but also remember, you have grad school, a bachelor’s degree just won’t cut it when you want a good job now a days.

*Disclaimer: the salary are made up, it was just an example

umm… the salary wont change but where you get hired can. especially in engineering/science… you cant really get a job with a BA - you need to go to grad school

The “You can’t really get a job with a BA” isn’t necessarily true - I got a BA in econ and had a job lined up at graduation with a pay scale pretty similar to that of my friends with BS’s. I was econ, (though I didn’t go into finance; there are other post-econ major options) which probably has more marketable skills than something like hispanic studies.

The job market could change a lot between now and the time the entering freshmen graduate though. In the long run, if your primary goal is guaranteed employment doing something you can tolerate rather than doing something you really enjoy … get an engineering degree.

HAHAHA, I wanted to be an engineer until I realized that…

can anyone tell me about philosophy, english or pyschology majors? My son to deciding between a full ride at University of Minnesota and a half tuition at Rice.

thanks

Please refrain from bumping old topics - especially since your post is not directly related to the topic. In addition, none of us remember what was discussed here.

Anyways, will Rice be possible for you from a financial standpoint?
