Currently, I attend a Community College and have completed my first semester. So far I have a 3.77 gpa in transferable units to USC. I got a B in a math class, but it was non-transferable. I was wondering if that factored into my application GPA? By the way, these are the courses I have taken, and will take in intersession/spring. I will have had 30 units completed.

(Transferable) 5 units Chinese 1A/B A
(Transferable) 4 units CHEM A130 OC Prep General Chemistry B
(Transferable) 3 units ENGL A100 OC Freshman Composition A
(Non-Transferable) 3 units MATH A120 OC Trigonometry B
(Transferable) 3 units PHIL A100 OC Intro To Philosophy A
(Transferable) 3 units PSYC A100 OC Intro To Psychology A

= 3.77 in transferable units

Winter/Spring I'm taking:

ECON A180 OC Macroeconomics 3 units
ENGL A101 OC Criticl Reasn:Literatur 3 units
MATH A170 OC Precalculus Math 4 units
MUS A105 OC Music From Bach To Rock 3units
SOC A180 OC Introductory Sociology (I) 3 units

all transferable for next semester and will have at least 30 transferable ones

I don't really have any EC's, my high school record was not that good (above a 3.0 though). I plan on shadowing a pharmacist/working at a pharmacy or hospital during the winter or spring, and plan on writing about my passion to be a pharmacy major.

I was also wondering where the letter of rec should be from? I think my English teacher will be able to write me one. I know a pharmacist that is a friend of my family, but I'm not sure if she can write a letter of rec for me? Just wondering where I'm at for my chances at USC as a sophomore transfer, and also whether I should just wait another year and transfer to UCLA. Thank you guys in advance! :)

Hello,
The students at SC are on break right now until early January. You may have more responses at that time.
On CC there is a transfer forum. Check the SC transfer thread. You may receive more answers in that particular forum. Hope this helps......

You should note that USC doesn't really have a pre-pharmacy major, but it's offered as a pre-professional emphasis. You're best bet is to apply as a bio/chem major.

Stat wise you look okay, and they really aren't going to look at your high school record other than the fact that you passed.

The members on this forum do not tend to chance transfer students. The requirements differ greatly between departments and it just seems to be too subjective to get a handle on anyone's chances. Sorry I don't know about how your gpa or classes will be evaluated.

Since you will have completed at least 30 units, admissions will focus primarily on your college work, not your high school work.

About recs, I would think your English teacher would be better but if you feel strongly about the pharmacist, go ahead and submit two.

Hi everyone, I'm a sophomore at UCR and I submitted my app. to USC this past weekend. So nerve wracking!! Anyway I've been reading these threads and they've really put everything into perspective. Mainly that pretty much the entire world wants to go to USC hahaha. Well for anyone who is willing to give me a little hear-say, I got a 3.785 for my Fall grades. I am applying to USC with 21 units completed, with 16 in progress for winter quarter. I applied to Annenberg for communications (Yes, I've heard how competitive it is) with a second major in Journalism. I have always been a really talented writer so all my essays were outstanding, I am for positive. However, my high school grades were not so impressive. I took rigorous courses in high school but I slacked off for much of it. I got a 1940 as my cumulative SAT score, with a 660 in Literature (SAT2) and 560 in Biology (SAT2). I took 5 AP exams and passed only 2 with a 3 Grade, which were AP Lit/AP Lang Comp. I was varsity cheer captain, participated in a variety of clubs in high school, have an internship, joined a sorority, etc.

Considering everything, do you think I have a shot at Fall, or even a postponed spot in the Spring have my grades are solidified? I am for certain that I can get above a 3.8 this quarter. Please let me know! Thanks everyone!
