Maryland was never my top choice, it was just the most affordable choice. I am just angry because it’s a blow to my (admittedly) overinflated ego.

I have another school that accepted me that I like much better and after the merit money they gave me, it’s only like $8,000 more than UMD. I guess I’ll take out loans for that. My parents will pay full in state tuition but not more.

I also have my number 1 choice that I still didn’t get an answer from.

raikou - omg get health insurance. seriously. if you go to umd and have no health insurance they’ll force a plan on you that costs almost $600 and you won’t be allowed to cancel it no matter what. take some core classes at your cc. core classes are mandatory no matter what major you’re in.

yeah idk why some of you guys got deferred. did you apply regular or priority? I’m assuming priority. not to sound rude or anything but were your short answers/essays strong? not gonna lie, my essay probably could’ve been better.

tbh now that I look back I guess I kinda deserve being deferred to spring. I had few classes my senior year, I didn’t do sports (a couple extracurriculars and community services), my sat scores were below umd’s average according to collegeboard, and I submitted my application on the last day of the regular decision deadline. I only had one C on my transcript and I was in the top 5% of my class, but I guess that wasn’t enough. :/

based on your stats though, I would’ve thought that you guys would’ve gotten in without a problem. hmm

I mean, the thing is, if I honestly thought that I was subpar for umcp and absolutely loved the school, I would consider spring more. But the thing is, I don’t think I am and I don’t actually like CP much at all. It only hurt because, like J’etude, this has been a huge blow to my ego.

^^ I dunno about the essay. I can pm it to you and you can be the judge of it. If you want me to that is. I was told it was strong though.

For me, UMD was only my top choice due to financial reasons. I have personal things going on right now which limit me to instate schools only or huge scholarships from oos schools. So it’s UMD or UMBC…or CC. Out of those 3, UMD is much much higher on my love scale.

rofl that’s okay. I don’t think I can judge it anyway because I’m not an admissions person. just saying that even though stats are the most important, short answers and the essay are there for a reason as well. idk I guess you’re going to have to ask an admissions person what’s up.

My essays were amazing. Subjectively. I mean I’m doing my best not to brag, but they were the best two things I’ve ever written. I literally spent hours on something I’d normally spend 20 minutes on. Short answers probably weren’t strong, it’s hard to tell with them.

But yeah, huge ego blow. Financial reasons as well, it was between UMD, Towson, and Salisbury. I’m in Salisbury with a decent merit scholarship, Towson hasn’t contacted me yet (they still accept SAT scores through the mail and not online, so I guess they’re not very efficient) but I expect to get in there pretty easily. So it’s UMD or one of those two. I’ll be happy wherever I go, but UMD is BY FAR my top choice.

^^They probably didn’t even read the essays and if they did, I hope they had more than 1 person read them because those things are very dependent on the reader. One person may hate it and another may love it.

Well…if you’re willing to blow some money, I have some hope for you guys…

A friend of mine was offered spring admission as well. However, his mom found out about a summer program at umd he could do that would allow him fall admission instead. He did it and was granted fall admission. From what it sounds like, the summer program seems to be [Freshmen First](http://summer.umd.edu/index.php?slab=freshmen-first). You get on-campus housing in the SUMMER, take some introductory classes that go towards your core requirements, and you get in for fall. It’ll be expensive, but it’s for those of you who absolutely do not want to do FC but want to get in for fall.

Check to make sure though! I’m positive it’s Freshmen First, but seeing as how my friend had no idea what the program was called, it could be something else. I am absolutely sure that it is FF though.

You know, what hurts is that people with worse stats than I got in. That’s what’s really bugging me. Like you guys said, it does hurt the ego… :(

In-state tuition and a good CS program were the reasons I wanted to go to CP. Although, you guys should remember, the LAST school that you go to is what really counts (i.e, graduate school)

My parents wanted me to get lots of $$ from colleges, and even if I did get admitted for Fall, I doubt I would’ve gotten anything. I was telling my friends “I know I’ll get in, it’s just how much scholarship I get…” But now I didn’t even get it…that sucks hardcore…

I feel like I’ve posted here too much but whatever.

I thought I would for sure get in for fall and possibly get into scholars.
I’m working on a list of questions to ask them, but I have nothing but really angry questions.

Yeah, I thought I’d have a chance at scholars, but I got waitlisted for fall with spring admission. I’ve got a whole list of questions, I can’t wait for Monday (never thought I’d say that)

Yeah. I thought for sure fall. Not scholars, nothing but the basic “You’re In!!! But barely.” acceptance letter.

I’d ask them questions, but with 30,000 applications they’re not going to do any more than read from a script for what to answer when they get asked a specific question. I don’t think I’d find anything about about my own personal application. I’ll call and try and get them to bump me up to fall semester just because it can’t hurt to try, but there’s really very little to do. I have a feeling this decision is pretty final. Unless I make up some crazy story that makes them feel sympathetic. They don’t fact check crazy stories, do they? =)

And yeah, I’ve posted here way too much. Honestly it’s become more of a support group for me than just some random forum. If these are the kind of people I can expect to meet when I get to Maryland, I can’t wait until sigh Spring semester.

I can’t either… except for all that homework I have no motivation to do. Thanks guys.

What are your questions? Just wondering, I don’t really have any. You don’t have to share, of course, though… I’m sure some of them are personal.

-What differentiated my app from others who did get in for fall?
-What’s my chance of getting in for fall from the waiting list?
-Any idea when I might get the decision on fall?

I had more but typing them out I can’t remember

ooh, stuff like my chances at LEP (architecture) if i were to start in the spring

I actually have a personal story I’m going to use. It’s in no way made up or a joke though, it’s dead serious and revolves around a sick family member.

Funny how some of the kids in my grade whom I let COPY off my tests on previous occasions got in but I didn’t. Karma’s a bich isn’t it.
