Could someone rank Illinois Universities for me?

If anyone could give me a top 5-10 Illinois Universities that would be great. I know UChicago is 1 and UoI is 2 but after that I am lost. Thanks.

Depends on the major. U of Chi for humanities, U of I for Engineering & Comp. Sci.

Northwestern, Illinois Institute of Tech, Univ of Illinois, Univ of Chicago are all great

Bradley, Loyola Chicago, North Central College, St. Xavier, Wheaton, Knox, Principia are all good.

I don't know how to rank but those are some to research/think about.

PM me if you have any more questions.

No Augustana and Wesleyan?

I know Northwestern, U or Chicago, & U of I in Champaign are all good. I would rank them in that order, but then again, it depends on what you want to major in.

DePaul is outstanding if you're a music or theatre major

What do you want to study?

Northwestern/Chicago
UIUC

Northwestern
U Chicago
U of I
UIC (Univ of Illinois in Chicago)
Loyola Univ. in Chicago
Depaul
ISU (good for education majors)
Columbia College (good for people into film)
Lake Forest College (liberal arts school)

Oh yeah also North Central College and Benedictine University are still growing but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they gain more recognition.

But yeah all in all the best in terms of ranking/prestige etc...the privates are Northwestern & U of C and the best public is U of I.

I'd say, according to my research so far for sciences:
NU/UChicago (best privates)
Illinois Wesleyan (best small LAC)
UIUC (Best state school)
Augustana

I would suggest visiting several of those schools named above. De Paul and Columbia are big city located while Augustana and Knox are located in small towns. Benedectine un. is very religiously oriented. Then again, it depends what your interests are in, North Central College in Naperville is excellent for business/ finance with great internships/jobs opportunities while 12% of graduates of Knox go to medical schools whether it is by garanteed acceptance to Rush med school program, G. Washinghton or other places.
Lake Forest LAC combines small school atmoshpere with easy access to big city.
It is all about finding a fit....

Well, I am a Political Science Major (although I am considering switching to Business, either way planning on Law School).

I don't have any great reputation of grades so I won't be getting into UoI or Northwestern, UChicago, etc. (I am a transfer with less then 60 credits so UoI won't even look at me actually).

I'm 99% sure I'll get into Bradley and North central (my safety schools). I have lately been looking at other schools like Illinois State, Augustana, DePaul, and Loyola (may be a reach). I have a 3.33 college GPA and will have 31 credits at the time of application (around 50 at time of actual transfer). I'm also looking at marquette (reach, I know) as another possibility.

I think DePaul is a great fit for me but I have absolutely no idea what their transfer admitted profile looks like so I have no clue what they look for. My biggest problem is that I have no math credits so some schools (UW-Madison for example) have expressed it would be "very difficult" for me to get in.

my sister went to St. Xavier and then transferred to North Central. in her opinion, North Central is far better than St. Xavier

The top 2 are:

Northwestern University
University of Chicago

Those two are essentially equal, but Chicago is probably more intellectual and better at the pure traditional fields such as Economics (although Northwestern is also awesome in Econ), English, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science and Sociology. On the other hand, Northwestern is stronger in the professional fields like Education, Engineering and Journalism (Chicago does not have any professional undergraduate programs). Furthermore, Chicago is a very serious university known for being academic challenging and attracting students who seek out that sort of intensity. Northwestern is more known for being a pre-professional institution with more laid back students. Either way, both are awesome universities but in completely different ways.

The next 5, in my personal order of excellence, are:

University of Illinois-Urbana Champain
Wheaton College
Knox College
Lake Forest College
Bradley University

Also, although not technically in Illinois, WUSTL is merely 5 miles away from the Illinois border.

Northwestern
Chicago
UIUC
Wheaton
Loyola

If I was an international, I would check out North Central. The lady who works with me in the library has a son there and he is getting a great education at a good cost. He's premed.

NOrth central College in Naperville has excellent poli sci dep. I did meet one of their prof and he was great- put me on the spot right away and got involved in very interesting discussion and I am a parent he accidentally met on the campus tour.... Their UN model is very active and highly regardded.

"I know UChicago is 1 and UoI is 2"

U of I is third after Northwestern and Uchicago
