what do you guys think? thanks!

what is your intended major?

i wouldnt recommend rutgers unless you consider it a safety school..but then again it also depends on your major

Why west coast schools? Can't you find what you need closer to home?

You should apply to more reaches. Aim a little higher.

It's a great list. You've got some reasonable reaches, good matches, and a safety (which I personally think is the most important school of all). Good job on this list, it's excellent.

Wisconsin, Illinois, and Rutgers are very different from the others. What size college would you prefer? Or, doesn't it matter?

Check out Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Haverford.

Might look at Holy Cross or Colgate. HC has better location-1 hour from Boston.

I think you could put a couple more reaches on there, don't sell yourself short

hmm i plan on majoring in physics.

i dont want to be close to home which is why there are a lot of west coast schools.

perhaps ill add bates cmu or uchicago for a super reach. i posted another thread and everyone said that i had TOO man reaches.

hmmm.

thanks guys. ill revise one or two schools.

i replaced occidental and connecticut college with bates and carnegie mellon. Im not sure about UW- Madison or Bucknell. They both have about 93% of there class come from the top quarter of their HS class. Most of the students outside this are probably instate at UW-Madison. would it be worth applying to both those schools?

With 10 colleges, I think you should have 5 reaches, 3 matches, 2 safeties. For physics, U of Rochester might be a great place for you. They are especially strong in laser and optics. For Physics, I highly recommend U of R...admissions standards a little below Ivies, CMU, MIT, but superb in sciences.

How about Wesleyan?

just out of curiousity, why did you replace conn coll? its basically the same school as bates but in a better location.

I think i will replace UW-Madison with URochester. I seem pretty close to 5 reaches 3 matches and 2 safeties, i think.

Wesleyan would be nice but i think too much of a reach for me.

and as for conn college... both union and conn college are really preppy and neither have amazing academics to make up for that drawback. Im still considering replacements for Union and Bucknell. conn college might make it back on my list in lieu of Union.

decisons.

In place of Union or Bucknell, would you consider Brandeis?

wait, you say conn coll doesnt have the academics for you? its the most selective school on your list. im confused....

what? conn coll is an uber good school! It's darn selective too

Brandeis was on my very first draft of colleges i planned to apply to but i got rid of it since a very pretty campus is important to me and i think i would feel awkward not being jewish.

connecticut college is a good school but so are a lot of schools. i think it will take the spot of union for now unless i find a similar school stats wise that i like more.

bucknell is my only question mark right now. i wouldnt mind going to the school but it has the highest percentage of students coming from the top quarter of their class out of all the schools on my list. the list seems SLIGHTLY top heavy but im willing to live on the edge ;p

edit: if anyone has a suggestion to replace bucknell.. something less preppy but with similar selectivity, a pretty campus and strong physics department please let me know!

Good luck in your applications!

Is Lafayette a possiblity? I know it has engineering-- but I don't know about physics. Similar to Bucknell but maybe a bit easier to get in.

I know Wesleyan is a reach but I have heard they are trying to attract science students.
