Could they have graded wrong? If so, how can we get it regraded?

So the SAT I got a 680 on Math. I feel like they made a mistake in the grading because when I left the testing I was confident in an 800. Also I’m super strong in math. Every practice exam I took I got a perfect score or just missed one. And on the PSAT I only missed one (760) on math because of a careless mistake. And on the act I just recently got I got a 36 on math.

This was my first SAT. On the score report do they tell you which ones you got wrong or how many you got wrong?

Doubt it. Sorry.

Ask for score verification, and they’ll rescore your answer sheet by hand instead of machine. The machine is hypersensitive so even if you have the slightest stray mark your score can be affected.

Do I have to pay them to do that? And what does the score report that will be released on June 30th show? Should I wait for that first?

Same here. I scored a 680 when I was consistently scoring 800’s on practice exams and a 780 in March. I’m kind of bummed because my other sections went up.

Yeah, I think something must have happened to mine to because I got a 630 in writing but never scored below a 750 in my practice tests :frowning:

Probably nothing went wrong. The difference betweena 680 annd an 800 could be 3-4 questions. IF you want to be sure though, you can get it scored by hand for a fee of 50 dollars.

Yes, I also feel that there was a mistake. My score dropped from 2280 first time to 2040… I also got a 680 on math… I’ve never gotten that low on any practice test before…

It seems like many people got problems with their Math scores. I also had <700 Math even though I usually score about 750 - 780 on practice tests

DD math score went from 680 to 760.

@Inthepursuit Same, I raised my score on writing and reading but my math score ruined everything which I can’t believe

My Critical Reading score screwed me up. :frowning:

So if we do pay the money for them to rescore and turns out they did mess up, do you still have to pay the fee? That would be ridiculous if you did.

Sadly, almost everything with College Board involves a fee. My daughter felt like most practice activities yielded a slightly higher score than the actual test. However, many kids don’t realize that the difference between an 800 and a 720 is very very few test items, and probably makes little difference as a data point.

@aznboi4981 same here. I got 580 this time but I got 640 inMarch and my practice scores never went below 620

The CB website says that if you order score verification, and if your score turns out to be different from the score first reported to you, the score verification fee will be refunded, and the new score will prevail.

But if I were you, I would wait for the score report which will come out several days later. You can see for yourself how many questions you got wrong on the Math sections.

I personally believe that because they threw away one Math section, a Math score of 800 and a 680 might have a smaller difference. The Math curve, even when 3 sections are scored, is notoriously harsh (1 wrong and you lose 40 points; 2 wrong and you lose 60 points). Now that only 2 sections are scored, perhaps 3 or 4 wrong cuts you down from 800 to 680.

So wait for the report. If you get 3 or 4 wrong, then a 680 is normal. But if the number of wrong answers turns out to be much bigger than you think, then ask them for score verification. Don’t fret about the 50-dollar fee. It’s worth the risk if you can get back your true Math score.

@AmericanGothic Does the score report show anything else other than how many you got wrong? Even if it shows i got some wrong I really feel like I didn’t get any wrong, at least not 3-4 wrong.

@Archlion
The score report entails the following:

  • Shows how many you got wrong/omitted in total for each section
  • Shows how many you got wrong/omitted in each subsection for a section (i.e how many you got wrong in CR’s passage-based portions or CR’s sentence completion portions or for each Math concept like numbers & operations, data & statistics, geometry, algebra & functions or for each Writing section the improving paragraphs, etc)
  • Explains your national percentile in each section
  • Shows how many of the easy, medium, and hard questions you got wrong for each section and subsection

@Archlion Well. You feel like you get everything correct, but in fact you can get several wrong. Many people share the same feelings with you. I once got a 790 in Math, but I didn’t believe I got anything wrong. But the score report just says I got 1 wrong. :frowning:

3-4 wrong is acceptable. Your test result might be a little different from your expectations. 3-4 wrong isn’t that different. But if the report says you got a lot of questions wrong, then maybe something’s wrong with the grading. At least this is what I was gonna think and do if I were you.

Don’t waste the $50 if you’re that good in math. Spend that money to take it again and nail that 800.
