Could this be a good sign? Hmmm

Ok, today I got a letter from Brown saying they need my financial information ASAP sent to their office.

This probably means nothing, but… Could this be a good sign?

It seems to me that they wouldn’t through the trouble of creating these reports for all 10,000 + applicants they get when only a fraction get in.

I’m probably reading too far into this, but I thought I’d throw it out on the table to see what you guys think.

I'd say it could be a good sign. But then again we go crazy trying to read into things. Is Brown your first choice?

i got one like that from WUSTL and was wait listed.

and i got one like that from Columbia, and I am not getting in there.

What didn't you send? Tax report, Fafsa, _____?

arent financial aid and admissions separate? ive gotten emails/letters from schools telling me to send in additional financial aid info, but i dont think it means anything :-</p>

hope everything works out! :)

i know financial aid is separate from admission at wustl...brown... i dunno. i'd assume the same, though.

financial aid and admissions are separate...doubt it means anything.

:(

Well, I'm still optimistic :)

Optimistic is the only way to go when it comes to college acceptances.

yeah I got that too- I think it was because my dad sent the fafsa in a couple of weeks ago so i could apply for some merit aid at the u. of minnesota. I doubt it means anything, but we can always hope it does!

I don't think it means much...colleges ask for info. to clarify things all the time.

adamo, for all ivies, since it is need blind need based, that means it is seperate.

Am I to infer from these responses that each ivy assembles FA packages for all 10,000 - 20,000 applicants who apply when only 1,000 - 3,000 will be offered admission, and that they are still requesting data from all 20,000 applicants a mere 10 days before formal letters are sent to the 1,000 - 3,000 students who were accepted?

yeah, basically

Does that also mean that the admissions department does not inform the FA department who has been admitted until the letters are actually sent, rather than when the acceptance decision was actually made in committee? What would justify that procedure? Would that not be considered an enormous waste and totally unnecessary expense? Of course, stranger things have happened and it would not necessarily surprise me.

I don't know what ACTUALLY happens, I'm just confirming what you inferred based on the responses of this thread.

But! Oooh, check this out. It's Harvard but...hey, this might help:

I can't help you beyond that Lawyerdad, otherwise, I'd be pulling info from out of my @$$. :)

Wah, so the trick here is to make sure your FA file is incomplete. If they don't care, you're out... haha... :D

I believe it means something.

I highly doubt it. Ivies are need blind. Finaid and admissions operate separately.

^Read lawyerdad's argument. There's no guarantee, but with nobleguy's experience, he should now be a bit more optimistic.
