Could this be considered a hook?

I’m part of the Druze (super small, approx 800k - 2M people globally) religion. It’s an Ethnoreligious group so I’m not sure how AOs look at it.

I doubt it’s considered a hook but I was just curious what ya’ll thought.

Hooks:
Underrepresented minority: African-American, Hispanic American, Pacific Islander, NativeAmerican

Recruited athlete

Legacy

Celebrity status

Large donor

First generation college student

A hook is something that fills an institutional need of a college – a reason to accept one candidate over other similarly qualified candidates (see examples above). Your religion is not a hook. Most applicants do not have hooks.

It’s something unique about you, but not a hook

Thanks. I was just wondering what colleges consider diversity.

Other than URM, as @auntbea notes above (and this will vary by college how much of a hook this will be) diversity is not a hook. While many colleges will value diversity, being from Wyoming, being LGBTQIA, being Wicca, etc., are not hooks.

As others have said, not a hook, but you could spin it to your advantage with the right essay, if it’s important to you. Admissions people are thrilled to come across an essay they haven’t read before.

(apparently, 99% of essays consist of “that time we finally won the game” and "how I overcame this obstacle/illness)

@skieurope Oh, huh. I thought being LGBT/being from Wyoming was a hook too.
