Could this be correct?

I ran the NPC for my son, and it showed a free ride. His stats: 3.4 GPA (does have a couple of D’s); 1460 M+CR on SAT, and virtually certain to be NMSF ( NMF unlikely due to D’s). I’ll probably go ahead and contact them (or have S do it). He would like to go to an urban college, and his GPA makes it more expensive in the other areas we’ve checked out.

I did attempt to get the info using the “ask a question” feature, but got no info. Since there are no email addresses listed on the website, I guess we’ll need to make a phone call when there’s an uninterrupted block of time. I’m guessing the net price calculator may be assuming S will be a NMF! But that’s not likely to happen. It’s certainly worth checking out, though.

First and most important question: are you instate or OOS?

If you’re OOS, you should know that the Amigo Scholarships are NOT guaranteed. There are only a limited number of OOS scholarship slots and they are awarded competitively. Your son would not qualify for a full ride (tuition, fees room & board) because the Regent’s Scholarship requires a 3.9 GPA.

The NPC may have assumed your son is in-state because for NM state residents, the Lottery Success Scholarship pays for 100% of tuition for 7 semesters. (UNM has a Bridge to Success Scholarship it awards to Lottery-eligible student to pay for their first semester.)

Someone from admissions contacted me and said that he would probably be eligible for in state tuition. Not much of a draw, since there are several schools with automatic full tuition for NMSF?
