Could this EVER happen?

I hate the fact that I was such a lazy student during highschool. Average is what I was and I'm afraid I always will be. I didn't apply to any prestigious colleges because its out of the picture for me. Who could go to Yale with a 1040 combined SAT, 2.99 GPA and lack of prestigious awards? Hmmm, that's laughable. lol. I plan on going to a very nice college my freshman year, one I may enjoy. One thing has crossed my mind. TRANSFERRING... I'm not too keen on the whole transferring deal. I just know that I'm probably going to transfer. One school that I WOULD LOVE to go to is Stanford. OH-MY-GOD... I'm dreaming right?! Some dreams are just unatainable, and sadly, for me, this one might be. I dont want to give up though. I want to finish senior year with a bang and get into a good college. A college I can stand for a year. My question to you is: If I do realllllllly well during my freshman year of college... stay really involved... really just KICK ASS... Is there a chance that hell might freeze over and I could stand a chance and be admitted to Stanford? If this is a possibility, what kind of stats am I looking at if I want to transfer? Slacking off in highschool has definitely kicked me in the butt. Thanks for any tips, information, etc. that you can provide me...

While your GPA might be recitified by good college performance with rigorous courses, your SAT is still too poor. I would recommend retaking it if you want to stand a chance.

If you have a good GPA the last 2 years of HS, you have a fair chance to transfer into a great college.

Check this out, this is my HS GPA breakdown by years:
Freshmen: 2.3
Sophomore: 2.5
Junior: 3.68 (unweighted)
Senior: 4.44 (3.87 unweighted)

Do well in college and try to win some national distinction in whatever you have a passion in. Then, you will have a chance at stanford.

Could it happen? Absolutely. But ask yourself something: What has changed, in you, since you left high school? Ask yourself if you've devoloped a dream without the resolve to follow through. If the only change that took place is that you developed a desire to be there (Stanfurd), then, well, no. You don't have any chance.

I personally am not interested in hearing your response nor do you don't owe me an answer. Just be honest with yourself.

You need to do something amazing. Starting with getting your SAT up 3-400 points.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies guys! Does anyone have any similar experiences or anything else to add???

I'd agree with Slipper to raise those SATs. You can blame low HS grades on a lack of maturity, but there's no real excuse for low test scores.

Thanks elizabeth22, and I agree with you.

The SAT needs to be at least a 1250.
