I am a High School Sophomore and currently attend Blah blah Blah Blah High, one of the most prestigious institutions for higher secondary studies in the state of New Jersey. I visited Princeton University as an eighth grade student and have been researching about it ever since. My research brought me to the conclusion that Princeton University is the school for me. I wish to be in the research field for physics and have come to admire the hands-on academic experience and the amazing reputation of Princeton University. I have been planning and working towards it for two years now.. I am very well aware of the fact that being admitted into Princeton is not at all an easy task, I am asking for information regarding that. I wish to know what the wonderful people in the Undergraduate Admissions Office of Princeton university look for in a student. I wish to know what I must do to reach this goal of mine. I wish to know what an appealing application to Princeton University might look like.

XYZ XYZZTZ

So I sent this email to the Undergrad Admissions office at Princeton University, but I think that this may have hurt me because I asked them what they wanted me to be. PLEASE HELP

I believe they have the answer to all you have asked on their website, your email was pretty pointless, plus I dont think it will hurt your chances.

I don’t think it will hurt. The admissions officer that goes, “Hey, isn’t this that kid that sent us that stupid email? We should reject him.” is rare. I also doubt they will see your email as bad, they see hundreds of emails all the time asking about things readily available on the website, and yours isn’t even necessarily one of those. Also, if they thought the information you solicited was on the website, they’d probably just make some volunteer or intern answer it, so it wouldn’t affect admissions.

I highly doubt this will affect you… But the first sentence makes you sound a bit narcissistic. lol. However, they will not answer the questions as how you expect them to. They will say the common thing… there is no formula that will guarantee you a spot in the princeton class. jaja.

Relax, you’re a sophomore; also, I hope you didn’t use phrases like “I wish to know” in your email to the admin officer because you sound like you’re trying too hard. Also, saying things like, “My research brought me to the conclusion that Princeton University is the school for me” makes you sound like you have a stick up your a**. Furthermore, work on your syntax: “I am very well aware of the fact that being admitted into Princeton is not at all an easy task, I am asking for information regarding that.” I’m being hard on you because I know what kind of kid you are-- the pretentious brainiac. I was that kid once, and let me tell you it’s better to enjoy high school and live in the moment. It’s good that you’re planning ahead, but relax and enjoy your high school experience while you can. You’ll do well, I promise.
