Could this hurt my chances at Columbia?????? Please help!

Hey guys, I just found out from my guidance counsler that I've a 4.1 GPA yet I am number 40 in my class of 350 which puts me in the top 11%! will this hurt my chances at Columbia? I heard that most students at Columbia were in the top 10% of their classes.

You're actually in the top 12%. You've got to round honestly.

It will hurt you in the sense that being #40 is worse than being #39. There's no cut-off. Most admits are probably well inside the top 10% so it isn't like top 10% is some gold standard. How CU views your grades will be a question of your school quality, your course difficulty, etc.

do you think that my class rank of 40/350 is more imporatnt than my GPA of 4.1?

it really depends on how hard your school is

It is impossible to say which one is more important. Columbia will look at both along with your course load, school quality, etc. It is a subjective and holistic process. There ain't no formula.
