No tl;dr
Hi all, so I’m an oos transfer student with 52.5 credits by the end of the term. I was accepted initially reporting that I will have 60 credits by the end of the term, because in late march I dropped two courses that were somewhat related but not required for my major. Instead though, to make up the credits, the UC schools lists a 3 on the European History exam as 8 units:
- European 3-5 HIST European 8.0
And my current school only accepts 4s or 5s for this course. In all honesty, I did not realize these schools accepted 3s… I was so used to the notion of only 4s and 5s, and even some 5s at certain schools! I didn’t even think of it until right before I considered dropping the classes (maybe it was a subconscious thing)… I formerly just expected my 2 AP courses mattered because of my current school’s requirement, but luckily, my old AP credit has allowed me to slack off. Regardless, European history is not related to my major although it does fulfill some of the school’s requirements.
I mainly dropped those courses because I was struggling with them and knew I would be getting As on my other three courses. Another thing is that I have not reported this information to the college, yet. Should I do that ASAP?
Misc.
GPA: 3.7
Major GPA: 3.8
Impacted major: neuro
I am well aware of the cost, and I will be paying full-price tuition, which is not an issue! Additionally, I could just take 1 or 2 summer courses to fulfill the requirement.
ALSO: When the UC gives 8 units for credit on the AP Euro exam, how many credits does that indicate? I’m just wondering because I’ve seen this question asked and don’t fully understand the answer… Most responses say that a unit = ~3.5 credits… So is UCLA granting 8x3.5= 28 credits? That many?
Sorry for the lengthy post and thank you for reading this!
I have no idea what you said up there but the UC will give you 5.3 semester or 8 quarter units regardless of what your CCC or other school says if you have a 3. Now, if there’s a duplication (meaning a course that matches the AP exam), you will lose some units.
If you are below 60 your admission will likely be rescinded.
And those 8 units are quarter units. They are not semester units.
@Ohm888
5.3 semester or 8 quarter units = how many credits?
… great now they’re gonna rescind me for having 57.8 credits
Sometimes they give a pass if you take in summer. I’ve heard of it happening sometimes when there’s a screw up. Contact them immediately and tell them you thought the AP were 8 semester and that you’re adding a summer. Seriously, they might accommodate you. But don’t wait.
Units and credits are the same.
No, 2 units and 2 credits obviously arent the same! -.-
A credit is worth 1.5x more than a unit.
Look: Credit granted for AP exams
(Credit is expressed in quarter units. For Berkeley and Merced, divide total quarter units by 1.5 to convert to semester units.)
Confused as to why this only says Cal and Merced.
Cal and Merced are the only UCs on the semester system.
credits and units mean the same thing, no reason to get caught up in minute technicalities. What you’re referring to is semester units vs. quarter units. Go on the “report changes” tab on your acceptance letter and let them know ASAP. Tell them you’re willing to take the remaining credits over the summer, and maybe they’ll let it slide, tho they’re usually very strict with the 60 semester units/90 quarter units requirement.
Just called and got rescinded
It’s not the end of the world. Just apply again next year.
Sorry to hear that. But in the app they say that if there is any changes to your record you need to report it right away. Seems you dropped the class but never told them. Lesson learned I guess.
