Could winter break be any shorter?!

Man, i was talking to my friend who will be attending cornell this fall and he was saying how he gets 6 friggen weeks off for winter recess! Then i look at UM and we have to be back at school by the 4th of Jan. Thats a joke! This stinks, i will hardly get to see anyone back home (i am oos).

yeahh.. mostly every other school that i know of have longer winter breaks.

BUT, we have like 2 spring breaks and we finish in late april, earlier than most schools. i'd rather have a longer summer than a longer winter :]

Yeah, but what am i supposed to do being home alone for 3 weeks before all my friends get out....sleep i guess.

3 weeks? you will go on vacation with your new umich friends.
that's what you'll be doing.

Good point. Where did you see the 2 spring breaks? I only see one from Feb 24th to Mar. 5th.

I don't like long summers, they get boring...
Plus, I'll most likely be in the freezing cold for winter and the unbearably hot and humid for summer. Yay! Seasons to the extreme!

It would be nice if there was a little more to winter break than xmas/GLI/New Years.

I still can't believe our winter break is only like 10 days long...that's what our HS was like. I also can't believe that we get out in April. Jeez, what a weird school. One more week off during winter would have been a welcome break.

we have 8 weeks :) dont hate! but we get out in late june ..

I think it's great because we have an extra term to take if we want to, plus we get out earlier. Who needs 8 weeks for winter break...

i would prefer a longer christmas, just by a a week or two... and then get out in early may instead..

Michigan's Christmas holidays were too short...and I had to travel all the way to the Middle East. By the time my body had adjusted to the 9 hour jet lag, I had to get back to Michigan! But the 17 week summer break more than made up for it! hehe!!!

hahahaha I will have a 12 hours jet lag ; ) travelling all the way back to hong kong.

I think a long summer is great! All that time to work, make money, steadily pay off my $35k yearly loans :)

but why doesn't UM start early when there's semi-nice weather like in the middle of august and get out earlier in December when the weather is nasty. I'd like to enjoy FL weather a little more in winter.

^yep yep, totally agree

The long summer is painful...

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the long summers. There are huge benefits to this.

You're the first students back home so all the jobs back home will be available.

And if u start early and find a summer internship...
you're among the first interns/co-ops at the company and get a head start. Plus, your internship basically becomes a co-op (4 months), and the extra time means you know what...extra $$$...which means more money to spend on booze for next term!!!...just kidding...or maybe not

I agree, long summers are amazing. You can even do something useful for two months and have a full summer left.

yeah i wish we had a longer cmas break too, by a week or 2. It'd be easier for travel plans that way.
