Could you check out my son's chances?

Hi,
How might he fit in? He is currently deciding on an ED school, so he is worried about which ones to apply to ED.

93 10th
89 11th
Unweighted - students don't get credit for Honor or accelerted courses

Good references from teachers, good references from coach, plus a compelling essay.

Any chance considering the 89 last year - which was mostly from an 81 in Honors Pre-Calc.

Thanks for your time,

Wow, talk about a discrepancy in SAT and ACT scores.

A 34 on the SAT, in my best estimate, is probably somewhere around a 2250 on the New SAT. Compare that to his 1830.

As a top 5%, 34 ACT student with solid ECs, I think he has a good shot at admission. As an an 1830, however, I would say he chances are close to nil. Has he taken those APs yet, or is he planning to?

If you can, submit the 34 ACT and three APs, so the SATs don't have to get sent, and I think he will have a solid shot.

Hi,
Unfortunately, we never expected the SATs to be so dreadful, as his PSATs were great, as was his SATII in US History and his Math I was not bad. So it is a done deed. He is going to have to live with it, and hope they see that it was just an anomoly. I realize how competitive this school is, and that they don't have to accept a kid with such an anomoly, so he is looking at it as a real reach. I just am wondering if he should use an ED on it, or if it is hopeless.

And unfortunately, he won't be taking the AP Bio or Calc tests until May 2008.

And thank you very much for replying!

My post sounded a little harsh. I meant that if you're son we're too apply with only an 1830, I don't think he would have great chances. The 34 ACT will help him out significantly, and I think he should most certainly apply.
