Could you give some invaluable suggestions about my extra-curricular activities?

Hello my CC friends,

I am an international student from China, who is studying in Toronto, Canada currently. I am just curious about how to improve my extra-curricular activities. I am going to a senior in September, and I know my extras do not look very good, and that is why I am posting this, to hear from the advices from you, my CC friends. Please, if you have time, take a quick look at my resume, and if possible, give my some suggestions as to how to improve them. I am only concerned about extra-curricular activities.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, to all who read my post!

Resume
Awards (the competitions below are hosted by University of Waterloo, and contestants are not confined to students in Canada)
Achieve year
Grade 11 Hypatita Math Competition School 1st place,
Gold Standard
31st place in Canada grade 11
Grade 12 Euclid Math Competition School 1st place, top 2% in Canada grade 11
Grade 11 Fermat Math Competition School 1st place, top 2% in Canada grade 11

I did not get any departmental awards from our school. This will be harmful for me, right?

Extra-curricular activities
Activities Position Active years

Martial arts Club Founder/President grade 11-12
(I know Kung fu, and I perform Kung fu in school assemblies. I even hold events about them. However, I name my club “Martial arts club” rather than “Kung fu club”, so students who can perform taekwondo and other types of martial arts can join the club. To some extent, this is a cultural exchange, it is? I actually want to present myself as liaison between cultures to admission people)

Multicultural Club Member grade 11
President grade 12

Student Council Class President grade 10
Vice President of external affairs grade 11-12

Toronto District School Board
SuperCouncil Representative of Jarvis Collegiate Institute grade 11-12

Model UN Founder/President grade 11-12

Math Club President grade 10-12

Toronto Math Circle Member grade 11-12

Peer tutoring Tutor in mostly Math grade 10-12

Toronto Public Library
Editorial Youth Advisory Group Tutor in mostly Math grade 10-12

Recycling team member grade 10-12

Ping Pong team member grade 10

Below are positions I can get, but I am not sure if I should get, because I will spend more time on these positions, though they sound good. Plus, I think have more positions do not mean I will have a greater admission chance; instead, they may confuse admission officers when they are trying to see who I am. But I list them anyway.

Could you please give me some valuable suggestions as to possessing these positions or not? Thank you!

(science club president OR VP grade 12
Mandarin club president grade 12
Physics club founder/president grade 12
Chemistry club founder/president grade 12)

Thank you for reading my resume! Now I just have some questions, which I have for months, could you please answer them for me?
Thank you so much!

Could you please think about who I am before you read the following paragraphs? Thank you.
Now you may read my image to see if my image matches your thoughts.

The image I want to show to the admission people: I am a Kung fu fighter, who is not only confined to Kung fu's physical and visual beauty, but also act as liaison between different cultures(from my experience in martial arts club, multicultural club, student council), and a liaison between different countries(from model UN). And a math person who is not only good at math, but also spread the pleasure of math into other people by tutoring and math club.
That is my image.
I do not know if this works. Will the admission people understand my "image"?

Are there any suggestions about what I should do to improve my extras? I am thinking maybe I should be the members of some local multicultural organizations or something, but I think being a general member is all I can get, it is hard to be executive members of the local organizations, and will this help my extras?

I read want to hear the ideas from you about how I might improve my extras.
Thank you so much.

No, that’s not harmful at all.

You should probably explain this a little to admissions officers. Not everyone sees it that way, so you’ll have to show them how to see it that way.

Your ECs seem fine to me, actually. You should still consider internships or math camps or something though. There’s a whole thread about summer opportunities that you might find helpful.

As for your image…well, I kind of got it, but considering your twelfth grade officer positions, I kind of thought you were a sciency-person as well. I guess not?

Most colleges require essays, so you should definitely take that chance to explain your “image” to the admissions officers.

Haha wow you’re worrying about your EC’s? If anything I’d say they are too many and you should pick 2 or 3 where you spend 200+ hours in each. That’s what top colleges like to see. So don’t seek out a bunch of positions. Keep the ones you have and build on them as much as you can. That’s important.

I agree with amatarmage - you definitely don’t need MORE clubs. Founding them and making yourself president also looks self-serving. You need to focus on the two or three things that matter most to you and use them to differentiate yourself from all the other kids who also like those things. If you care about math, kung fu and politics, then make those the three things you invest yourself in. The rest are just distractions unless you are have a great time doing them and its a way to be with friends.

Thank you for all 3 of you!
