Could you lie about your race?

Just so you know, in the case of Native American, you have to be 1/16, BUT you have to actually be a member of a tribe-- they have cards and card # for such things.

Unless you're Ward Churchhill.

I think that you could because you can put down whatever race you consider yourself to be, even if other people don't think you are that race. The colleges propably couldn't question you.

This thread actually makes me laugh. An amusing thought comes to mind of this extremely white boy at my school who randomly starts rapping (horribly) sometimes.
Maybe he feels more of a "connection" to the African American race?

Best. Post. Ever.

Anyways, you have to be a member of an actual indian tribe if you apply to a college and say you're an indian. and they do check on this i believe.

they check Indian I think but not other races. Its a question of integrity, you would probably get away with it though. Colleges aren't supposed allow race to be the deciding factor (even though they probably do).

You can lie about absolutely anything. In the exprience of an old lady, I've seen that lying never seems to pay off. Life has a way of catching up with liers and cheaters.

Except for that 63 year old woman or whatever who cheated on her high school final exams 45 years ago and never got caught until she sent in a letter this past year to the school saying what she did.

You could call yourself African, because your European/Asian ancestors migrated from Africa, therefore you are 100% African.

What if I was Chinese/Asian and I was born in Canada (still live here), but my father was born in South Africa? Both my parents are still Chinese, though.

"Whitest girl ever, with red hair and freckles. "

There are plenty of Hispanics with those kind of looks. In fact, one of my former students was like that plus had green eyes. She was first generatiion American with Cuban-born parents (and Cuban-born grandparents, all native Spanish speakers).

It's important to realize that Hispanics can be of any race. If you can see Univision and watch the soap operas that are made in Mexico, you'll see that many of the lead characters, who are Mexican, have naturally blond hair and fair skin.

Most hispanic people look white. Several people actually thought I was Hispanic before. I know a redheaded Mexican who is extremely pale.

i think it all depends upon your perception of yourself

"Most hispanic people look white. Several people actually thought I was Hispanic before. I know a redheaded Mexican who is extremely pale."

The complexion of hispanics varies as do blacks, desi indians, native americans and other people of color. There are black mexicans I believe on the east coast of Mexico. http://www.afromexico.com/

One cannot look at skin color to determine ethnicity or nationality!

A guy from my school, white immigrant from South Africa, wrote "African American" and got accepted at Cornell with SAT ~1300. Technically he is correct.

Sure you could lie about your race. I mean, race in humans doesn't scientifically exist, so I would imagine it would be impossible to check.

the race thing... um... i know a few asians who are marked as white. im mexican american, but marked as white. i check mexican american on all apps, though...

im checking mexican american and i plan to get a lot of hispanic scholarships.

RACE SHOULD BE DROPPED ENTIRELY. it matters what is in ur head. if there are more white ppl making straight As and 1600s, then that is wher superiority can become reasonable... which is why white supremacy will never go away.
