I want to do pre-med, so i know that the GPA is extremely important when it comes to the medical school admission (along with MCAT)
So could you rank the academic difficulties of these schools? (also their GPA inflation?)

No one in the world has attended all those colleges and without having done so, they couldn’t possibly give you a top-to-bottom ranking. I have no doubt that you’ll get some responses that will attempt to do so, but they’ll be no more valid than just puling the names of the institutions out of a hat.

None of these schools are particularly easy. Hopkins does mask your first semester freshman grades, so that could help if you need to adjust. Cal is notorious for having a brutal curve, but I don’t believe (not that I have any evidence) that its any more difficult to get an A there compared to the other schools you list. Brown would probably be the most relaxed academically. I’m not saying that the material or the tests are easier, but their drop policies allow you to drop a course very late into the semester with no penalty, which is always a nice option.

It looks like (aside from UChiago) you just picked top schools that aren’t HYPSM that attract a lot of premeds. In reality, you can go anywhere for premed. Don’t worry about college GPA until freshman year starts. Just find a school you really want to go to.

Grade deflation doesn’t exist. A more accurate explanation for schools with mean GPAs on the lower end would be that there is a lack of prevalent grade inflation at those places. If you work hard, regardless of where you attend, you can make good grades and get into Med School.

But seriously, your question is almost impossible to answer. They are all very selective schools that most likely gear their class difficulty to the ability of their students. Since anyone of the students at each school could have probably been accepted at any of the others, class difficulty would be the same. It is like comparing headaches. Can you really say yours is worse than mine?

Comparing schools w/ very different student profiles is a whole different matter.

All I can speak for are reputations, but UChicago and Cornell are known to grade deflate, while Brown is known to be relatively easier to maintain a high GPA. And I do understand the high level of cynicism expressed by posters here, but the OP is right; maintaining a good GPA when doing pre-med is essential.
