Couldn't Clear Academic Probation, possibly getting dismissed. Help!

I'm a freshman in L&S and was on academic probation this semester but I don't think I'll be able to clear a 2.0, even for my semester GPA. I know that I'm subject to dismissal, but I've met with advisors twice and the best advice they gave me is to submit an appeal which I did. I'm extremely worried that I'll get kicked out of Berkeley only as a freshman, and I have no clue how to break it to my parents who'll kill me once they find out. I'm out of state if that affects anything.

I'm really panicking right now. Any advice?

I think it’s more important that you get your parents to help you in this. After all, you can just wait for the appeal, and if it doesn’t work, you’re going to have to reapply for admission.

Do you have an idea as to why your grades are so low?

Unless you had extenuating circumstances that prevented you from passing your classes, maybe you would be better off going somewhere else? It doesn’t get any easier.

What are the classes you’ve been having difficulty in, and what’s your intended major?

I’m in the same exact situation… I had a 1.171 with 17 units the first semesters and then a 2.67 with 14 units this semester for a cumulative 1.89. I also had a very big family problem over spring break that I could argue affected my studies this semester. Anyone know the reasons for why they approve an appeal and what my chances look like for appealing for an additional semester of probation?

what is going on with your grades? as for me, i just dropped classes right away before even a W would show up, when i did not like the teachers. okay, this ultimately set me back one year for transferring, but i kept a perfect gpa. if i had stayed in those classes with teachers that i thought were loony tunes, i would never have made it. strategy is very important when maintaining a high GPA. the whole grading thing is completely bogus, so get over that early, and just concentrate on how to best manage the system. GPA is like a Credit Rating. it is lame, but we have to cope, alas. hope you can get a handle on what is going wrong with your strategy. good luck.

^ oh, didn’t realize you were at Cal. dude. i am sorry that your parents might not understand. but remember, you did get accepted to Cal, and if things are not going well, please do not take it to heart. i really hope that Cal will let you stay. and hope that you don’t worry too much about what your parents say. we do not pick our parents. they should love you no matter what and be proud of you regardless of gpa. if they are hard on you about this just know that this is their own flaw. good luck dude.

Can I please have an update on what occurred? I’m going through something similar.
