Could've Done Better

I'm a humble kid. I don't know if it's because I go to church or whatever, but right now I feel kind of terrible. I got accepted into a prestigious university but I feel as if the college could've chosen/done better.

Has anyone ever felt that way?

It's a feeling that comes and goes. How do you deal with it?

No, not really.

I’d feel pretty honored if I was accepted to a prestigious university.

Unless it was Harvard. But I’m not even applying there.

What university did you get accepted to?

If the adcom officers were impressed by your profile then give yourself more credit for accomplishing what you did.

I felt almost the exact same way after being accepted to and earning a generous scholarship to one school. I felt like I had fooled the admissions committee into accepting me or something, haha, as if I didn’t really earn it. It made it even worse when I read about students here on CC getting denied that had amazing resumes. It was like, how did they get denied but I got accepted?! Give it some time to sink in and be thankful that you got in! They clearly saw something in you that you might not have noticed or maybe didn’t realize was as great as it is. No matter what, just know that admissions committees (especially ones at prestigious universities) don’t make their decisions lightly and there was a reason that you were accepted whether or not you know what it is!

@agtaco-surprisingly it’s at the same school you’re applying to.
@rw2013- Thanks. I’m still waiting for it to sink in.

Well, that’s what applying to college is all about, afterall – Selling yourself and making every little thing sound better than it is. When the truth is, colleges accept students for their personalities and what they can bring to the school, not for their perfection. I would be honored, and you should be too. Even if other students seem to have a better resume than you do, you evidently had a great enough personality in your essays to make an impact on them. Congratulations.

@T26E4 - Your intention was without malice but it sort of exacerbated my situation. That kid deserved to go to Harvard. I, on the other hand, don’t think I’m worthy of an institution like an ivy league. Thanks for your help though.

@Beccagadd - I might be interpreting your post incorrectly, but believe me, I didn’t lie. And I see where your getting at. Thanks.
