So I'm currently a sophmore in high school and this summer I was suppose to do alot of stuff but all my plans fell through.

Internship- didn't get any cause i'm in high school (which totally sucks by the way. I'm still looking though)
NYU pre-college program (I got in but only got partial scholarship and I can't pay for the rest)
NYU Tisch program (I got put on the waiting list and waiting list people don't get a scholarhip so forget about that)

Anyway next year when I'm a Junior I have this scholarship (from my school) to go to any summer program. I want to go to Columbia's summer program or Brown (not NYU cause its seriouslly ****ing me off right now)

This summer I'm planing on just studying for the SAT, writing my book and some short stories, volunteer at red cross, summer job and maybe take an extra class. I was just wondering will Columbia like me less if I don't do anything GREAT with my summer or will it not matter that much???

PS: I spent half of the day crying cuzz my I can't add something to my resume for Columbia. Don't mean to sound like a winny little girls but I'm just soooooooooooo annyoed :/

It sounds to me like you have a very busy summer planned. You do not have to be in a program to impress Columbia. It seems as if you will be doing many meaningful things—writing, volunteer work, and a job, just to name a few. I also hope you take some time to be a teenager as well! Enjoy your summer and good luck in the future.

Thanxs CarpeDiemAlways

Don’t worry! As long as you show that you did something productive with your summer, you should be fine

Chill. Enjoy your summer. Perhaps opening yourself up to a fun unplanned, unscheduled summer will lead to a great experience which will be the touchstone for the perfect college essay. You never know when inspiration will hit you.

Yeah I know how you feel, I really wanted to go to this Cooper Union internship and some other math programs, but I got rejected by the internship and the programs cost too much. I also felt like Columbia’s going to reject me because my application is going to have nothing for summer activities, but it’s not like it’s THAT important. I think of summer activities as just a bonus, because it really won’t hurt you if you don’t have anything super special in it. Most of the big programs usually cost a lot of money anyways, so it’s as if it tells colleges whether or not you’re able able to afford them. Also, working at Red Cross will definitely help you and something’s better than nothing. Good luck on getting Columbia! :P
