Councilor Recs?

Do you need to have councilor recs to get accepted to Brown? I’m not close with my councilor at all, I’ve only ever spoken to her once. I can get beast teacher recs but I’m not sure I can get a decent councilor one. Also, can I get a recommendation from someone who isn’t a teacher? I do my research for Experimental Science with a researcher at UCF, can they give me a recommendation?

From what I understand, Brown accepts up to 4 rec letters. Two of which must be from high school teachers, 1 from your GC, and 1 supplemental one from anyone.

Your counselor (not councilor) rec is required as part of the Secondary School Report. You can ask that she be honest about not knowing you well. MIT’s admissions blog provides this example:

And yes, you may submit a supplemental rec, though this should be sent by snail mail and does not need to include an evaluation form. Mark it clearly as “Supplemental Rec” so as to avoid confusion.

Though I could be mistaken, I believe those four recs may all be teachers. The GC rec not included in that count.
